JUSTIFIED BY HIS GRACE

Romans 3:21-30

..but all are treated as righteous freely by his grace because of a ransom

 that was paid by Christ Jesus.

Paul, previously a fanatic Pharisee, persecutor of Christians, fulfiller of the law; now, by the saving grace of Jesus Christ, after a dramatic encounter with Him, has understood the truth, prophesied since the old days: We are not justified by the works of the law, but by the precious blood poured out on the cross of Calvary, through faith.  The just will live by faith, and not like the ancient scriptures: he who fulfills the law will live.

The apostle to the nations is concerned about the new community in Rome, that he has not founded, given that the Jewish Christians wanted to introduce circumcision and other laws of Moses.  Paul wrote this eternally valid letter:  We do not need the law, nor works.  God shows us how we can be justified:  only by faith in Jesus Christ, believing in his sacrifice.  In him there is no distinction due to ethnicity or social class, eliminating any pride over fulfilling the law, or empty rituals that cannot bring true redemption.  The grace and mercy of God offers us something that the law cannot give: salvation.  The law only has value in teaching us that which is evil, and our works are simply a grateful answer to God for all the love shown in his Son.  Thus, we are not only hearers, but also doers of his Word and we discard all boasting.

Prayer: Lord, teach us that only your wounds have merit and through them, by faith, we can be justified before you.  Amen

Romanos 3:21-30

Siendo justificados gratuitamente por su gracia,

mediante la redención que es en Cristo Jesús.

Romanos 3:24

Pablo, antes fanático fariseo, perseguidor de los cristianos, cumplidor de la ley; ahora, por la gracia salvadora de Jesucristo, después de un dramático encuentro con Él, ha comprendido la verdad, profetizada desde los remotos tiempos: No somos justificados por las obras de la ley, sino por la sangre preciosa derramada en la cruz del Calvario, mediante la fe. El justo por la fe vivirá, y no como decían las antiguas escrituras: el que cumple la ley vivirá.

El apóstol de las naciones está preocupado por la naciente comunidad de Roma, que él no ha fundado, dado que cristianos procedentes del judaísmo querían introducir la circuncisión y otras leyes de Moisés. Pablo escribe esta carta eternamente vigente: No necesitamos la ley, ni las obras, Dios nos muestra cómo podemos ser justificados: solo por la fe en Jesucristo, creyendo en su sacrificio. En él ya no hay distinción de etnias o clase social, se eliminan los orgullos sobre el cumplimiento de la ley, de rituales vacíos que no podían traer verdadera redención. La gracia y la misericordia de Dios nos ofrecen eso que la ley no nos puede dar: la salvación. La ley sólo tiene el valor de enseñarnos lo que está mal y nuestras obras son una respuesta agradecida a Dios por tanto amor mostrado en su Hijo. Así que seamos no solo oidores, sino también hacedores de su Palabra y desechemos toda vanagloria.

Oración: Señor, enséñanos que sólo tus heridas tienen mérito y que, mediante ellas, a través de la fe, podemos ser justificados ante Ti. Amén.
