BEYOND THE ABYSS THAT SEPARATES US
DANIEL 2:31-45

King
Nebuchadnezzar was desperate. He had had
a dream that filled him with worry but he could not remember it. In his arrogance, he asked his advisors to
declare his dream and interpret it. Panic
arose among the wise ones of the court, that this violent and despotic king
could dispose of their lives for an absurd trick. And it is here when Yahweh opens the
unimaginable doors. Daniel, one of the
deported ones from Judah, is the way to provide a solution to this apparently
fatal conflict. To unravel the mysteries
of the king’s dream, Daniel appeals to certain steps: speak wisely and prudently (v. 14), win more
time with the King (v. 16), ask your companions for help in prayer, (v. 18),
and after the revelation of the dream by God, give thanks through a deep
prayer. Daniel tells the king’s dream,
and also its interpretation, and Nebuchadnezzar has to recognize the greatness
of Yahweh.
We are
close to Advent, which is the time of preparation for the saving action of God
through Jesus, who bursts forth in history. Maybe there are preposterous situations that
make us lose tranquility, situations in which there doesn’t seem to be much to
do according to human logic. We should
work wisely and place ourselves in God in limited situations. Advent is time to open ourselves to the
revelations of God and work in God’s name.
It is also necessary to recognize how Advent prepares us in our prophetic
commitments to announce the good news of God to the powerful, whether it be
pleasurable or not for them.
Prayer: God of life, may we always
go with you in moments of doubt or crisis, enabling you to reveal your will, and
let us commit ourselves to that will. Amen.

El rey Nabucodonosor estaba desesperado. Había tenido un sueño que lo
llenaba de inquietud pero no lo recordaba. En su arrogancia pidió a sus
adivinos que le declararan su sueño y lo interpretaran. En los sabios de la
corte cundió el pánico, aquel rey violento y despótico dispondría de sus vidas
por un absurdo capricho. Y es ahí cuando Yahvé abre puertas inimaginables.
Daniel, uno de los deportados de Judá, es la vía para dar solución a este conflicto
aparentemente fatal. Para desentrañar los misterios del sueño del rey, Daniel
apela a ciertos pasos: habla sabia y prudentemente (vr.14), gana más tiempo con
el rey (vr.16), pide apoyo en oración a sus compañeros (vr.18), y luego de
revelado el sueño por Dios, le da gracias a través de una profunda oración.
Daniel narra el sueño al rey, así como su interpretación, y Nabucodonosor tiene
que reconocer la grandeza de Yahvé.
Estamos cerca del Adviento
que es tiempo de preparación para la
acción salvífica de Dios a través de Jesús, que irrumpe en la historia. Quizás
haya situaciones absurdas que nos hagan perder la tranquilidad, situaciones en
las que no habría mucho qué hacer según la lógica humana. Debemos obrar
sabiamente y encomendarnos a Dios en situaciones límite. Adviento es tiempo de
abrirnos a las revelaciones de Dios y a obrar en su nombre. Es también
necesario reconocer cómo el Adviento nos prepara en nuestros compromisos
proféticos para anunciar a los poderosos las buenas nuevas de Dios, sean placenteras
o no para ellos.
Oración:
Dios de la vida, que siempre que vayamos a ti en
momentos de dudas y crisis, dispuestos a que nos reveles tu voluntad, y podamos
comprometernos con ella. Amén.
