AS DONE FOR THE LORD
COLOSSIANS: 17:23-24
Whatever your task, put yourselves into it, as done for the
Lord
Colossians 3:23a

At the beginning of one day a glance
toward the altar surprised me with a flower arrangement. It was a bouquet of
flowers and leaves taken from the Church’s garden. It looked simple and beautiful.
So it is every Sunday, we are surprised by the ingenuity and the holy hands of
a sister who picks the flowers she finds on the way to Church to delight us
with the most beautiful floral arrangements. That made me reflect on the ways
we can see the things around us and make the most of them.
Professor Castellanos said that we
ought not lose the capacity for wonder. Sometimes our life is so stripped of
meaning that we do not let ourselves be surprised by the simple beauty of a
rosemary, or the green bud in the middle of a ditch... Fortunately there are
people in our lives who are surprised every day with daily miracles and who startle
us with their sensitivity. The sister who inspired this reflection in me not
only allows herself to be surprised but in her hands the daily and common take
on a new meaning.
Inspired by this witness, I invite
you today to sanctify our lives through the works of our hands. May all that we
do be from the heart, whether it be cooking, healing, growing or decorating!
Let’s make it our purpose to always work for the Lord and when people come upon
the work of our hands may they be surprised and say, “O, God exists, and it’s
wonderful!”
Prayer: We ask you, good and gracious God, to put into our hearts
the desire to please you in all that we do. May our eyes be able to be
surprised and see you in everyday life and may our hands be creative to show
others your blessings every day. Amen.

Hagan lo que
hagan, trabajen de buena gana,
como para el
Señor…
Colosenses 3:23a
Comenzó un día, al mirar hacia el altar me sorprendió
el arreglo floral. Era un ramo de flores y hojas tomadas del jardín de la
Iglesia. Lucía sencillo y precioso. Así, cada domingo somos sorprendidos por el
ingenio y las manos santas de una hermana que toma de las flores con las que se
encuentra en el camino hacia el templo para deleitarnos con los más hermosos
arreglos florales. Esto me hizo reflexionar en la manera en la que podemos mirar
las cosas que nos rodean y aprovecharlas. El maestro Castellanos decía que no
debemos perder la capacidad de asombro. Y es que en ocasiones nuestra vida está
tan estéril de sentido que no nos dejamos sorprender por la belleza sencilla de
un romerillo, o el brote verde en medio de una cuneta… Afortunadamente en la
vida existen personas que se sorprenden cada día con milagros cotidianos y nos
estremecen con su sensibilidad. La hermana que me inspiró en esta reflexión no
sólo se deja sorprender, sino que en sus manos lo cotidiano y común toma un
nuevo sentido.
Inspirados en este testimonio les invito hoy a
santificar nuestra vida a través del trabajo de nuestras manos. ¡Que todo lo
que hagamos sea de corazón; ya sea cocinar, curar, cultivar, ¡decorar! Hagámonos el propósito de trabajar siempre
para el Señor y que cuando las personas se encuentren con la obra de nuestras
manos puedan asombrarse y decir: ¡Oh,
Dios existe y es maravilloso!
Oración: Te pedimos, Dios bueno, que pongas en nosotros el
deseo de agradarte en todo lo que hagamos. Que nuestros ojos puedan
sorprenderse y verte en lo cotidiano y que nuestras manos sean creativas para
mostrarle a los demás tus bendiciones cada día. Amén
