RENEWAL

ISAIAH 35: 1-6a

 “Be strong, do not fear! Here is your God. He will come with vengeance,

 with terrible recompense. He will come and save you.”

Isaíah  35:4b (NRSV)

    It is said that the eagle, queen of the air, at the age of forty needs to renew her flexible nails, her beak curved towards her breast, her heavy and aged feathers. Flying and feeding is almost impossible. She has only two alternatives: slow death by starvation or enduring a painful period of renewal. At the mountaintop, where she can be safe from predators, she destroys her beak against the rocks, and when it grows back, she pulls her nails out; then, with new claws she plucks her feathers so that a new plumage grows out.  After a long time of renewal, she will take off again and will be able to live about thirty more years.

       As we approach the Bible and see the narrow path of the People toward God by the clarification and purification of their faith, we can see how difficult their path is. This is not only about the people of Israel at that time, it is also about us. Every day we face discouragement, sadness, our temporary nature and our weaknesses. It is no coincidence that the Scriptures invite us to strive, to be encouraged and to renew our lives like the eagle in order to take the new flight of faith.

Prayer: O God, give us strength and courage to renew our lives. Amen.

RENOVACIÓN

ISAIAS  35: 1-6a

...Esforzaos,  no temáis;  he aquí que vuestro Dios viene con

retribución,  con pago;  Dios mismo vendrá,  y os salvará.

Isaías  35:4b

Se dice que el águila, reina de los aires, a los cuarenta años necesita renovar su uñas flexibles, su pico curvado hacia el pecho, sus plumas pesadas y envejecidas. Volar y alimentarse le resulta casi imposible. Solo tiene dos alternativas: morir lentamente por el deterioro o enfrentar un doloroso proceso de renovación. En lo alto de las montañas, donde puede estar a salvo de depredadores, destruye el pico contra las rocas, y cuando este le crece, se arranca las uñas, con las nuevas garras se despluma para que salga un nuevo plumaje. Después de un largo tiempo de renovación, emprenderá nuevamente su vuelo y podrá vivir unos treinta años más.
  
Al acercarnos a la Biblia y ver el angosto camino del Pueblo hacia Dios en el esclarecimiento y purificación de su fe, podemos ver cuán difícil es su ruta. Esto no es solo para el pueblo de Israel en aquel entonces, es también  para nosotros. Cotidianamente enfrentamos el desaliento, la tristeza, la temporalidad y nuestras debilidades. No en  balde las Escrituras nos invitan a esforzarnos, a cobrar ánimo y renovar nuestras vidas como el águila para emprender el nuevo vuelo de la fe.

Oración: Oh Dios, danos fuerzas y valor para renovar nuestras vidas. Amén.
