THE
MOST IMPORTANT VISIT
LUKE 1:67-79

In our tradition, this day becomes exciting at the arrival
of a family member who comes to share Christmas Eve, and the efforts that we
expend so our special Christmas Eve table will be a success on this beautiful
night. But it is wise for you to stop
and spend a few moments thinking about the most important Visitor that you
should receive on this day
The Benedictus, which is the name of the hymn at the top of
this meditation, expresses the happiness that the priest Zechariah felt knowing
that he had been visited by the goodness of God through his Son Jesus
Christ. Zechariah called God blessed
after recovering his speech which he lost through the visit of the blessing of
God expressed in the birth of his son John the Baptist.
We are on the eve of celebrating this great day in which
God wants to visit us to give us his most valuable gift: the Baby Jesus, so that we might live
“without any fear, free of our enemies, serving him with holiness and justice,
and to be in his presence all of our lives.”
Do you feel ready to welcome the visit that God wants to make to you
today?
Prayer: Come,
Lord, and visit us anew; give comfort and strength to those who wait in your
love. Amen

Dios, en su gran misericordia, nos trae de lo alto el sol
de un nuevo día
Lucas 1:78
Hoy es un día que en nuestra tradición se torna
agitado por la llegada de algún familiar que viene a compartir la Nochebuena, y
por el empeño que ponemos en cuidar cada detalle para que sea un éxito la mesa
especial que debe adornar esta hermosa noche. Pero es oportuno que hagas un
alto y dediques unos instantes a meditar en el Visitante más importante que
debes acoger en esta fecha.
El Benedictus, como se conoce al himno que encabeza
esta meditación, expresa la alegría que sintió el sacerdote Zacarías al saberse
visitado por la bondad de Dios, a través de su Hijo Jesucristo. Zacarías llamó bendito
a Dios por haber recobrado el habla que perdió tras la visita de la
misericordia de Dios expresada en el nacimiento de su hijo Juan el Bautista.
Estamos en la víspera de celebrar ese grandioso día
en el que Dios nos quiere visitar para entregarnos su más valioso regalo: el
Niño Jesús, para que vivamos “sin temor alguno, libres de nuestros enemigos,
para servirle con santidad y justicia, y estar en su presencia toda nuestra
vida”. ¿Te sientes preparado para acoger la visita que hoy Dios quiere hacerte?
Oración: Ven, Señor,
y visítanos de nuevo para darnos consuelo y fortaleza a quienes esperamos en tu
amor. Amén.
