AFFLICTIONS FOR THE GOSPEL

II TIMOTHY 2:1-10

Do not be ashamed, then, of the testimony about our Lord or of me his prisoner,

but join with me in suffering for the gospel, relying on the power of God,

II Timothy1: 8 (NRSV)

            We are often overwhelmed by those who are responsible for sowing discord for no reason. People often misunderstand our actions and misjudge us; so the question arises, what is the point of making an effort as a believer if what results is criticism and incomprehension?

            It is also painful to see that many times, precisely because of our Christian witness, problems and difficulties come to us. In such situations we tend to withdraw and think: I’d better not commit myself so much.

            But the truth is that there are always situations in which giving worthy testimony of faith, taking Jesus Christ as a model or patron to imitate, produces abundant fruit in the lives of others who, because of our actions, also decide to draw near to the church and change their position regarding Christianity and faith in God.

Prayer: We pray on this day for your strength and courage to face adversity and affliction as resources available to us for our strengthening in faith and our communion with you. Amen.

LAS AFLICCIONES POR EL EVANGELIO

II TIMOTEO 2: 1-10

“No te avergüences, pues, de dar testimonio a favor de nuestro Se-ñor; ni tampoco te avergüences de mí, preso por causa suya. Antes bien, con las fuerzas que Dios te da, acepta tu parte en los sufrimientos que vienen por causa del evangelio”.

II Tim.1: 8

            A menudo nos agobian quienes se encargan de sembrar cizaña sin razón alguna, muchas veces la gente malinterpreta nuestras acciones y nos juzgan mal, nos salta entonces la pregunta de ¿para qué vale esforzarse como creyente si lo que resulta es crítica e incomprensión?

            Es doloroso también comprobar que muchas veces, precisamente por causa de nuestro testimonio cristiano, nos vienen problemas y dificultades. En tales situaciones uno tiende a replegarse y a pensar: -es mejor no comprometerse tanto.

            Pero lo cierto es que siempre hay situaciones en las que dar digno testimonio de fe, tomando a Jesucristo como modelo o patrón a imitar, deja frutos abundantes en las vidas de otros que a causa de nuestro actuar, deciden también acercarse a la iglesia y cambiar su posición respecto al cristianismo y la fe en Dios.

Oración: Rogamos en este día tu fuerza y valor para enfrentar la adversidad y la aflicción como recursos de los que dispones para nuestro fortalecimiento en la fe y nuestra comunión contigo. Amén.
