SOMETHING TO BE
THANKFUL FOR
PHILIPPIANS 3:
12-14
Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him.
“You of little faith,” he said, “why do you doubt?” (NIV)
Matthew.14: 31
A certain man
tells of a disagreeable experience he’d had in the sea, when, by his
carelessness, he fell from the launch in which he was seated into the water.
Amidst the surprise and fear that overcame him, he became paralyzed and nearly
drowned. Later, when he referred to this bitter experience, he was wont to
comment, “Water is something unique, one has nothing to hold onto.”
Peter lived through
similar moments when, because of his boastful personality, he purported to walk
upon the waves of Lake Galilee toward Jesus, who he’d seen do the same. To
pretend to do something in vainglory or personal pride is something
undignified, even more so if one tries to achieve a recognition of superiority
from others.
In Christian life
we accomplish things we can take pride in healthily; it’s natural to find
satisfaction in what one does, and that serves as stimulus and joy. But we
should be careful of the primary intentionality of our actions. In facing the
obstacle that sinks us, let us raise our hand so that Jesus may raise us, and
let’s make a firm commitment to reach the end of our goal.
Prayer: Let us pray for
strength amidst our tribulations. Let us pray for steadfastness and our faith
conviction. Pray for purity of ideals and selfless sacrifice. Amen.

ALGO DE QUÉ AGARRARSE
FILIPENSES 3: 12-14
“Al momento, Jesús
lo tomó de la mano y le dijo: -¡Qué poca fe tienes! ¿Por qué dudaste?”

Cierto
hombre contaba una experiencia desagradable que tuvo en el mar, cuando por un
descuido cayó desde la lancha en la que estaba hacia el agua. En medio de la
sorpresa y el temor que le sobrecogieron, quedó paralizado y por poco se ahoga.
Cuando se refería luego a esta amarga experiencia solía comentar: -el agua es
algo singular, no tiene uno de qué agarrarse.
Pedro
vivió momentos similares en aquella ocasión en la que, por fanfarronadas de su
personalidad, pretendió caminar sobre las aguas del lago de Galilea y dirigirse
hacia Jesús, a quien veía hacer lo mismo. Pretender lograr algo por vanagloria
u orgullo personal es algo indigno, más aún si se intenta con ello lograr un
reconocimiento de superioridad por los demás.
En la
vida cristiana realizamos cosas de las cuales sanamente nos podemos
enorgullecer, es natural hallar satisfacción en lo que se hace, y eso nos sirve
de estímulo y regocijo. Pero debemos cuidar la intencionalidad primaria de
nuestras acciones. Ante el obstáculo que nos hunde, alcemos la mano para que
Jesús nos levante, y hagamos un firme compromiso por lograr llegar al final de
nuestra meta.
Oración: Oremos por fortaleza en medio de nuestras tribulaciones.
Oremos por firmeza y convicción de fe. Oremos por pureza de ideales y
sacrificio abnegado. Amén.
