HE BELIEVED . . . AND IT WAS RECKONED TO HIM AS RIGHTEOUSNESS
ROMANS 4: 1-5

if you do not doubt in your heart, but believe that what you say will come to pass,
it will be done for you

Mark 11:23b (NRSV)

It is said that on one occasion Napoleon Bonaparte was reviewing his troops when, suddenly, his horse reared up. A soldier threw himself bravely forward and grabbed the animal by the bridle and brought it to the emperor. On receiving his horse back, Napoleon addressed the brave soldier, “Thank you, my captain!” That soldier resolutely asked, “In what regiment?” “In my personal guard,” came the reply.

And that soldier reported to the commander of the personal guard presenting himself as a captain. “By whose order?” asked the commander eyeing that foot soldier. His reply: “By order of the Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte.” And indeed, from then on he was received with that military rank. That soldier had the courage to believe the words that were spoken to him, and that changed the entire course of his life.

Without a doubt, this illustration should encourage us to put our trust in the many promises of the Word of God that are intended to strengthen our faith and encourage us in our Christian life. But do we believe God?

Prayer: Lord, strengthen our faith and help us to believe and to live trusting in you. May our journey with you never be disturbed by doubts but be surrounded by the aura of your power. We pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.

CREYÓ… Y LE FUE CONTADO POR JUSTICIA
ROMANOS 4: 1-5
