FAITH’S GREAT LESSON

Genesis 22:1-18

by your offspring shall all the nations of the earth gain blessing for themselves

            Of all the passages about Abraham’s life, no other can equal this one which we have just read. Its human content is such that we are impressed by the majesty with which the author presents the close relationship between his servant and his Lord. The sacrifice of Isaac meant a great deal to Abraham.  That surrender was clothed in the innocence of the sacrifice. He knew nothing about all that. His concern for finding the lamb was the simple anxiety of the one who does not want to see the one whom he loves and respects contradicted.

            God himself has delivered his Son to us for reconciliation. In a world in which sacrifice is not the dominant note, this seems little less than impossible. However, it is strictly true.

            It is possible that no one on earth has ever understood what that great leader, God, could do for humans and how much this same God demanded of the human race. Will we be willing to give what Abraham offered? Let us make our faith functional. May our faith serve us not only for the day when we have to face God, but also serve us to live with God on this earth. Let’s have faith that God is with us every day until the end of the world. Let’s strive each moment to increase our faith.

Prayer: Lord and Father, we pray for the level of our faith, that it may be what you want. Amen.

GRAN LECCION DE FE

Génesis 22:1-18

En tu simiente serán benditas todas las naciones

Génesis 22:18

              Entre los pasajes de la vida de Abraham, no hay otro que pueda igualar a éste que hemos leído. Es tal su contenido humano que nos sentimos impresionados por la majestad con que el autor presenta la estrecha relación entre su siervo y su Señor. Para Abraham el sacrificio de Isaac significaba mucho. Aquella entrega estaba revestida por la inocencia del sacrificio. Nada sabía de todo aquello. Su inquietud por encontrar el cordero era la intranquilidad simple de quien no quiere ver contrariado a aquel a quien ama y respeta.

              Dios mismo nos ha entregado a su Hijo para reconciliación. En un mundo en el cual no es el sacrificio la nota dominante, esto parece poco menos que imposible. Sin embargo, es rigurosamente cierto.

              Es posible que nadie en la tierra haya comprendido jamás cómo aquel gran caudillo, cuánto Dios podía hacer por el hombre y cuánto este mismo Dios demandaba del género humano.  ¿Estaremos nosotros dispuestos a dar aquello que ofreció Abraham? Hagamos de nuestra fe algo funcional. Que nos sirva no sólo para el día que tengamos que enfrentarnos con Dios, sino que también nos sirva para vivir con Él sobre esta tierra. Confiemos, Él está con nosotros todos los días hasta el fin del mundo. Busquemos a cada momento que aumente nuestra fe.

Oración: Señor y Padre,  rogamos por el nivel de nuestra fe. Que sea el que Tú demandas. Amén.
