WHAT ARE WE GOING TO SAY?

MATTHEW 16: 13-20

Simon Peter responded, “You are the Christ,

When we read this text we realize that people had different criteria concerning Jesus. Notice that, confronted with the question “Who do the people say I am?” the disciple commented different things they’d heard people say. But now the question is for them. Jesus wants to hear what his most intimate followers say, those who had been with him day by day. “And you, who do you say I am?”      

We can imagine everything that passed through the disciples’ minds: What do I say? “What is Jesus expecting to hear from me?” Peter’s intrepidity breaks the silence to categorically answer, “You are the Christ, the Son of the Living God.” This response denotes the importance that the disciple offered to the relationship with his Lord. He was not confused, he knew in whom he’d believed and who he was serving.   

Today the Lord formulates the question anew, but now it’s to you and me. What are we going to say?

Prayer: Lord, in your mercy we ask you that we may always have clarity in saying as Peter did that you are the Christ, the Son of the Living God. Amen.

¿QUÉ VAMOS A DECIR?

MATEO 16: 13-20

Simón Pedro respondió: ˝Tú eres el Cristo, el Hijo

del Dios viviente˝.

            Cuando leemos este texto nos damos cuenta que las personas tenían diferentes criterios acerca de Jesús. Fíjense que ante la pregunta -¿quién dice la gente que soy yo?, los discí¡pulos comentan diversas cosas que han oído decir a otras personas. Pero ahora la pregunta es para ellos. Jesús quiere escuchar lo que responden sus más íntimos, aquellos que han venido compartiendo día a día con él. -Y ustedes, ¿quién dicen que soy yo?

            Podemos imaginar todo lo que pasó por la mente de los discípulos en estos momentos, ¿qué digo?, ¿quéé está esperando Jesús escuchar de mí? La intrepidez de Pedro rompe el silencio para contestar categóricamente: -˝tú eres el Cristo, el Hijo del Dios viviente˝. Esta respuesta denota la importancia que el discípulo le ofrecía a la relación con su Señor. Él no estaba confundido, él sabía en quién había creído y a quién estaba sirviendo.

            Hoy, el Señor formula nuevamente la pregunta, pero ahora es a ti y a mí. ¿Qué vamos a decir?

Oración: Señor, en tu misericordia, te pedimos que siempre tengamos claridad en decir como Pedro, que tú eres el Cristo, el Hijo del Dios viviente. Amén.
