HE LEFT VERY SAD

MARK 10:17-24

 What a tremendous experience to look at oneself in the mirror upon rising! Sometimes what we see isn’t very pleasant, but even so it’s important to have a mirror to look at oneself because we can compose ourselves to begin the day. Mirrors make us see ourselves such as we are, and thus we can work to improve.

 Jesus had a surprise for the man who had a great deal of money, who approached him looking for answers to his spiritual problems. He said, “Go and sell all you have and give it to the poor.”  What a mirror, this expression, it made the man see his true image, and he departed sad because material things had more importance in his life than the encounter with Jesus.  

 There are people who think that for having attended church for many years, or for knowing the Bible or theology well, they already have their spiritual lives together. This is a mistake. The quality of spiritual life is not only defined by the relationship with God that one believes to have, but, by a good measure, it’s the fruits which that life shows.

 We need Jesus to confront us, that in encountering him we don’t leave downhearted because we’re unable to change. Just the opposite, that encounter produces the joy of change to our benefit and to those around us.  

 

Prayer: Lord, help me to find my inner self, that I might detach myself from that which weighs upon my life and change it in such a way that the encounter with you may be my joy. Amen.

SE FUE MUY TRISTE

MARCOS 10:17-24

“Por sus frutos los conoceréis”

Mateo 7:16

             ¡Qué tremenda experiencia mirarse al espejo acabado de levantar! Hay veces que no es muy agradable lo que vemos, pero aun así es importante tener un espejo donde mirarse porque podemos arreglarnos para comenzar el día. Los espejos hacen que nos veamos tal cual somos y que trabajemos para mejorarlo.

             Al hombre que tenía mucho dinero y se acercó al Señor buscando respuestas a sus inquietudes espirituales, Jesús le tenía una sorpresa; le dijo: “ve y vende todo lo que tienes y dalo a los pobres”; esta expresión, cual espejo, le hizo ver su verdadera imagen. Y se fue triste porque lo material tuvo más importancia en su vida que el encuentro con Jesús.

             Hay personas que piensan que, por estar asistiendo a la iglesia por muchos años, o por saber mucha Biblia o teología, ya tienen su vida espiritual en orden. Eso es un error. La calidad de vida espiritual no solo la define la relación con Dios que uno cree tener, sino que una buena medida son los frutos que muestra esa vida.  Necesitamos que Jesús nos confronte, que en el encuentro con Él no nos vayamos tristes porque no podamos cambiar sino al contrario, que ese encuentro produzca la alegría del cambio para beneficio nuestro y de quienes nos rodean.

 Oración: Señor, ayúdame a encontrarme conmigo mismo, que pueda desprenderme de aquello que pesa en mi vida y cambie de forma tal que el encuentro contigo sea mi alegría. Amén.
