HOW DO I FULFILL THE LAW?

Joshua 23: 1-6

Be very strong; be careful to obey all that is written in the Book of the Law of Moses, without turning aside to the right or to the left.  (NIV)

            After Moses’ death, Joshua assumed the leadership of the people of Israel in order to occupy the promised land. He carried out this task with discipline. Feeling already old, he gathered everyone to give him their recommendations. In the passage we read today, two fundamental ideas are appreciated: 1) God is the one who has fought for you. 2) Make an effort to fulfill everything that the Law of Moses says. The first statement highlights the action of God, who has provided them with a place to live and the possibility of settling down as a people, in short, stability to develop. The second indicates what the Lord expects from his people.

            Joshua's words take on meaning for us. All that we are and have we receive by the grace of the Lord. How do we respond to so much goodness? Joshua tells us: Make an effort to fulfill the Law. It is summed up in love for God and for your neighbor. Compliance with the Law is a daily challenge that requires efforts, but “it is worth it.” Psalm 1 tells us that the man who puts his love in the law of the Lord is happy. It also says that such behavior must bear fruit. Compliance with the Law is expressed in worship and service. Do we strive to serve God and our neighbor, which is the supreme law?

 

Prayer: Dear God, thank you that we can trust your faithfulness. Forgive us because we do not always respond as you as expected. Give us constancy in studying your Law. Amen.

¿COMO CUMPLO LA LEY?

Josue 23: 1-6

Esfuércense en cumplir laley de Moisés; cúmplanla al pie de la letra.

Josué 23: 6

            Después de la muerte de Moisés, Josué asumió la dirección del pueblo de Israel con el fin de ocupar la tierra prometida. Cumplida con disciplina la tarea, sintiéndose ya viejo reunió a todos para darle sus recomendaciones. En el pasaje que leemos hoy, se aprecian dos ideas fundamentales: 1) Dios es quien ha peleado por ustedes. 2) Esfuércense en cumplir todo lo que dice la ley de Moisés. La primera afirmación destaca la acción de Dios, quien les ha proporcionado un lugar donde vivir, la posibilidad de asentarse como pueblo, en fin , estabilidad para desarrollarse.; la segunda, indica qué espera el Señor de su pueblo.

            Las palabras de Josué cobran significado para nosotros. Todo lo que somos y tenemos lo recibimos por la gracia del Señor. ¿Cómo corresponder a tanta bondad? Josué nos lo dice: Esfuércense en cumplir la Ley. Ella se resume en el amor a Dios y al prójimo. El cumplimiento de la Ley es un reto diario que exige esfuerzos, pero, “vale la pena” . El salmo 1 nos dice que es feliz el hombre que pone su amor en la ley del Señor. También dice que esa conducta debe dar frutos. El cumplimiento de la Ley se expresa en adoración y servicio. ¿Nos esforzamos en servir a Dios y al prójimo, que es la ley suprema?

 

 

Oración: Amado Dios, gracias porque podemos confiar en tu fidelidad. Perdónanos porque no siempre respondemos como Tú esperas. Danos constancia en estudiar Tu Ley. Amén.
