LET US CARE FOR OUR PEOPLE

Ezekiel 34: 13-18

I will tend them in good pasture… (NIV)

Ezekiel 34:14 a.

The words of the book of the prophet Ezekiel allude to the time in which the kingdom of Judah was destroyed at the hands of the Babylonians. These specific words tell us that the governing priests and judges, who had the task of overseeing the well-being of justice, had abandoned it to its fate. The prophet casts a complete peroration against them and tells them that the Lord himself will be the one to shepherd the people before their total abandonment. We could think that there’s no better thing than knowing that it’s God who cares and watches out for us. However, those whom the Lord has placed in specific tasks, to take care of his people, are freed from responsibilities by this.

This text suggests that we have the responsibility of hearing and protecting weaker people, and as church we should think that this is part of our pastoral commitment. Together with the Lord we can help the sheep–our people–to rest in fertile pastures where food and justice are abundant.

Prayer: Lord, help us to act as good shepherds, serving others, placing our interest in the flock before our own. Amen.

CUIDEMOS A NUESTRO PUEBLO

Ezequiel 34: 13-18

Los apacentaré en ricos pastizales

 Ezequiel  34: 14 a.
