INDEPENDENT BUT RESPECTFUL

LUKE 2:48

When his parents saw him, they were astonished.

His mother said to him, “Son, why have you treated us like this?

Your father and I have been anxiously searching for you.”  (NIV)

Luke 2:48

           

As they were returning home, Jesus’ parents realized that the young man wasn’t with them. Is it that Jesus’ parents were careless people?  How could so many hours pass by without their realizing his absence?   

Later they found him listening to the rabbis’ teachings. His parents anguished, but never expressed themselves with violence or aggression.

           

Jesus’ parents, like all parents, didn’t understand that their son was becoming independent; but Jesus knew what he wanted and how he’d do it. But perhaps for that same reason, he understood he was still subject to his parents, and therefore returned to Nazareth until he began his ministry.  

Often, under supposed and well-intentioned protection, the development, and the independence of our children are hindered, and their psychological development is curbed. Thus, the child can become an insecure adult.   

Prayer:  Let us be able, oh Lord, to raise our children so that they may be independent, but at the same time respectful of the teachings of their elders. Amen.

INDEPENDIENTES, PERO RESPETUOSOS

LUCAS 2:48

Cuando le vieron, se sorprendieron; y le dijo su madre: Hijo, ¿por qué nos has hecho así? He aquí, tu padre y yo te hemos buscado con angustia.

            Al volver a casa, los padres de Jesús se dieron cuenta de que el jovencito no estaba junto a ellos. ¿Sería que los padres de Jesús eran personas descuidadas? ¿Cómo pasaron tantas horas y no se dieron cuenta de su ausencia?

            Más tarde lo encontraron escuchando las enseñanzas de los rabies, sus padres se angustiaron, pero en ningún momento se expresaron con violencia ni agresividad.

            Los padres de Jesús al igual que todos los padres, no comprendemos que nuestros hijos se van haciendo independientes; pero Jesús sabía lo que quería y como lo haría, pero quizás, por ese mismo motivo comprendió que aún estaba sujeto a sus padres por lo que volvió con ellos a Nazaret, hasta que comenzó su ministerio. 

            Muchas veces, bajo una supuesta y bien intencionada protección se traba el desarrollo y la independencia de nuestros hijos y se frena su desarrollo psicológico, por lo que el niño puede llegar a convertirse en un adulto inseguro.

Oración: Permite, oh Señor, que criemos a nuestros hijos de manera que sean independientes, pero a la vez respetuosos con las enseñanzas de sus mayores. Amén
