PREACH THE GOOD NEWS

MARK 16:14-18

“Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation.”

Mark 16:15

There are many things that we can do once we have heard the Lord’s invitation: “Go and preach the good news to all creation.”  Some believers say that they do not feel prepared to do this task. However, it is also true that there are many ways and means to help us accomplish this command. We invite you today to consider some possibilities.  Have you ever thought about how you came to know the Gospel? Perhaps the ways which were used with you could be the ones which you should use to share the good news of Jesus Christ with others. Cultivating a friendship also allows us to know a person’s material and spiritual needs and surely through exposure to the Word of God, we will find a way to evangelize. We can offer a Bible, a treatise, a song in the midst of despair, praying together with a person in crisis.  Have you asked yourself how many people have visited a church through your invitation?

Prayer: Lord, allow us to be able to preach the good news to those who are around us. Amen.

PREDICAD EL EVANGELIO

MARCOS 16:14-18

“Id y predicad el Evangelio a toda criatura”

Marcos 16:15

Muchas cosas podemos hacer una vez que hemos escuchado la invitación del Señor: “Id y predicad el Evangelio a toda criatura”. Algunos creyentes dicen que no se sienten preparados  para esta tarea. Pero también es cierto que existen muchos caminos y vías que nos facilitan el cumplimiento de este mandato. Te invitamos hoy a meditar en algunas  posibilidades. ¿Has pensado  alguna vez en qué forma tú conociste el Evangelio? Quizás esas formas que usaron contigo pueden ser las que tú debes usar para compartir la buena noticia de Jesucristo con otros. También el cultivo de una amistad nos permite conocer las necesidades materiales y espirituales de una persona y seguramente en la exposición de la Palabra de Dios, encontraremos un camino para evangelizar. Podemos ofrecer una Biblia, un tratado, regalar una canción en medio de la desesperanza, orar junto a una persona en medio de una crisis. ¿Te has preguntado cuántas personas han visitado el templo por medio de tu invitación?

Oración: Señor, permite que seamos capaces de evangelizar a los que nos rodean. Amén.

FAITHFUL TO GOD, EVEN IN HIDING

2 TIMOTHY 1: 6-10

“But join with me in suffering for the gospel, by the power of God.”

2 Timothy 6:8b

My prayer group is made up of brothers and sisters of different denominations, ages, and backgrounds.  One of the sisters has to hide her attendance from her husband, because he does not allow her to practice the Christian faith, even though this sounds unbelievable in our present Cuban context. At each prayer meeting this woman, through her testimony, is a reminder of the many Christians over the course of history that remained faithful to God in secret, under the most difficult of circumstances. I want to express my thankfulness to God for the life of this faithful woman. The Lord has given her the strength to not fret and to trust, with great hope in her heart, that her situation will change. Several people have criticized her for not being more forthcoming but once they understand her problems and see her attitude in facing them, they support her and pray for her family and for her household.  

Prayer: Our God of goodness, we pray for those Christian men and women who are suffering on account of their faith in You in today’s world.  Help them to remain faithful to your Gospel and allow us to help them and to not forget the testimony of their lives, always praying for them wherever they may find themselves.

 FIEL A DIOS, AUN A ESCONDIDAS

2 DA TIMOTEO  1:6-10

“Antes bien, con las fuerzas que Dios te da, acepta tu parte en los sufrimientos que vienen por causa del evangelio.”

1 Timoteo 1:8b

Mi grupo de oración está integrado por hermanas y hermanos de diferentes denominaciones, edades, historias de vida. Una de las hermanas asiste a escondidas de su esposo, pues este  no le permite practicar la fe cristiana, aunque parezca increíble en nuestro contexto cubano de hoy. En cada encuentro ella, con su testimonio, nos recuerda a tantos cristianos que a través de los tiempos han mantenido su fidelidad a Dios secretamente, bajo las más difíciles situaciones. Quiero agradecer a Dios por la vida de esta mujer fiel. El Señor le ha dado fuerzas para no desmayar y confiar, con gran esperanza en su corazón, en que esa situación va a cambiar.  Varias personas le critican porque ella no se revela ante tan penosa situación, luego cuando conocen sus problemas y ven la actitud de ella para enfrentarlos, la apoyan y oran por su familia, por su hogar.

Oración: Nuestro buen Dios, te pedimos por los cristianos y cristianas que hoy en el mundo sufren a causa de su fe en Ti. Ayúdalos a mantenerse fieles a tu Evangelio y permite que nosotros les ayudemos y no olvidemos el testimonio de sus vidas, orando siempre por ellos dondequiera que se encuentren.

GIVING UP IS NOT AN OPTION

MATTHEW 25:35-40

“…I was sick, and you looked after me.”

Matthew 25:36b

My friend had been sick for some time without a definite diagnosis, and I had given her all the recommended home remedies for her illness, but she remained in pain.  I eventually felt that I could not do anything more for her, and I stopped going to her house. One morning, as I was reading my daily devotionals, I again came across the following biblical passage: “I was sick and you looked after me.” I understood then that the Lord did not expect me to magically cure my friend, but rather to look after her through fervent prayer and visitation. I also understood that my prayers should contain neither demands nor anger, but rather peace, harmony, and trust in God’s perfect will.  A short while later, she received her diagnosis and her treatment and she immediately called me to thank me for everything I’d done for her.   I gave thanks to God for her health and for having allowed me to understand that through his love there is always something that we can do for others. Giving up, in the face of our problems or those of others, is not an option. Our only options are to pray, and to heal, and to look after others, and to share life and life in abundance.

Prayer: We pray, Lord, for those who are waiting for a diagnosis.  Give us the words to speak in order to comfort them. Through Jesus Christ we pray. Amen.

RENDIRNOS NO ES UNA OPCIÓN

MATEO 25:35-40

“…estuve enfermo, y me visitaron.”

Mateo 25:36b

Mi amiga llevaba tiempo enferma sin un diagnóstico certero, yo le había sugerido cuanto remedio casero recomendaban para su dolencia, pero no se aliviaba. Llegó un momento en que yo sentí que no podía  hacer nada más por ella, e impotente dejé de ir a su casa. Una mañana, leyendo mi devocional, me reencontré con este pasaje bíblico: “estuve enfermo  y me visitaste”. Comprendí entonces que el Señor no demandaba de mí que yo curara a mi amiga mágicamente, sino que la acompañara con ferviente oración y visitación. Comprendí también, que en mi oración no podía haber exigencias, ni ira;  sino paz, armonía y confianza en La voluntad perfecta de Dios. Poco tiempo después mi amiga recibió su diagnóstico y su tratamiento y enseguida me llamó para agradecerme todo lo que había hecho por ella.

Agradecí yo a Dios por su sanidad y por haberme permitido comprender que en su amor siempre hay cosas que podemos hacer por los demás. Rendirnos ante los problemas propios o ajenos, no es una opción. Nuestra única opción es orar, sanar, acompañar, compartir vida y vida en abundancia

Oración: Te pedimos Señor, por las personas que esperan un diagnóstico. Pon palabras en nuestra boca para consolarles. Por Jesucristo te lo pedimos. Amén.

I want for you to have what you need...

LUKE 12:22-31

“But seek his kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well.”

Luke 12:31

Not long ago while I was at the airport I happened across a mother and daughter who were saying goodbye to one another.  They embraced and the mother said: “I love you and I want for you to have what you need.”  The daughter replied: “Mother, our life together has been more than enough.  Your love is all that I have needed.  I also want for you to have what you need.”  They bid one another farewell with a kiss and the daughter departed. How many of us know the sadness of a farewell? What can we wish for someone at such a moment as that?  “I want for you to have what you need…” is our way of wishing that person a life filled with ONLY what is needed. Farewells are sad, says an old song, and it is true that when we are separated from a loved one, from a friendship, from a lover, and we don’t know whether or when we will ever see one another again, we suffer from that void. One has to have experienced such a situation in order to understand the pain of separated families. Only the love of God, who knows our needs, can soothe us and help us to move forward with the hope and the assurance of his presence.

Prayer: We pray today, Lord, for the mothers whose children are far away from them. Amen.

 Les deseo lo suficiente...

LUCAS  12:22-31

“Ustedes pongan su atención  en el reino de Dios,

y recibirán también estas cosas”.

Lucas 12:31

Hace poco tiempo cuando estaba en el aeropuerto escuché por casualidad a una madre e hija que se estaban despidiendo. Ellas se abrazaron y la madre dijo: “Te amo y te deseo lo suficiente” La hija respondió: “Madre, nuestra vida juntas ha sido más que suficiente. Tu amor es todo lo que he necesitado. También te deseo lo suficiente”.  Se saludaron con un beso y la hija partió. ¿Cuántas de nosotros conocemos la tristeza de una despedida?, ¿Qué se le puede desear una persona en un momento así? "Te deseo lo suficiente", es que deseamos que la otra persona tenga una vida llena de SÓLO lo suficientemente bueno para vivir. Las despedidas son tristes, decía una vieja canción y es cierto, cuando nos separamos de un ser querido, de una amistad, un amor, y no sabemos cuando los veremos o si volveremos a verlos,  sufrimos ese vacío.  Hay que pasar por una situación así para comprender el dolor de las familias separadas Sólo el amor de Dios, que conoce nuestras carencias, nos puede aliviar y ayudar a seguir adelante con la esperanza y la confianza de su compañía.

Oración: Oramos hoy Señor, por  las madres  que tienen sus hijos lejos de ellas.  Amén.

 LET US REMEMBER JESUS

LUKE 23:32-49

“Then he said, ‘Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.’”

Luke 23:42

A man was asked if he would like to receive Christ, but he put it off by saying: “Bah! Don’t bother me right now.  It can always be done at the last minute.  Remember the thief on the cross.”  He was taken aback when the persistent Christian sarcastically remarked: “Which one?  Remember, there were two of them.” The man replied: “That’s true.  I had forgotten.  I was referring to the one who was saved.”  That very night the man decided to trust in Christ for his salvation.

Look now for faith toward Him who went forward with the purpose of God even unto his death and crucifixion. God issues us an invitation to seek Him constantly and not just when we are troubled.  Let our yes to God be real and definite! It may not be as necessary to ask God to remember us as it is for us to seek His presence among us at every moment of our existence.

Prayer: We give you thanks, Father, for your promise on the cross.  Prepare our ears to always hear your message of salvation and prepare our voices to proclaim it. Amen.

 

ACORDÉMONOS NOSOTROS DE JESÚS

LUCAS 23:32-49

“Y decía: Jesús, acuérdate de mí

cuando vengas en tu Reino”

Lucas 23:42

A un hombre le preguntaron si quería recibir a Cristo, pero lo pospuso diciendo: “¡Bah! No me molestes ahora. Siempre se puede hacer a último minuto. Acuérdate del ladrón de la cruz”. Se impactó al ver que el persistente cristiano dijo sarcásticamente: “¿Cuál? Recuerda que había dos” El hombre respondió: “Es verdad. Me había olvidado. Me refiero al que se salvó”. Esa misma noche decidió confiar en Cristo para salvación.

Mira ahora por fe a Aquel que fue consecuente con el proyecto de Dios hasta su muerte y muerte de cruz.  Dios nos hace una invitación a buscarle constantemente y no sólo cuando estemos en problemas. ¡Que nuestro sí a Dios sea real y definitivo! Quizás no sea tan necesario pedirle a  Dios que se acuerda de nosotros, como tenerlo nosotros presente a él en cada minuto de nuestra existencia.

 

Oración: Gracias te damos, Padre, por tu promesa en la cruz. Prepara nuestros oídos para escuchar siempre tu mensaje de salvación y prepara nuestras voces para proclamarlo. Amén.

THE DIFFERENCE

MATTHEW 13:10-16

“But blessed are your eyes because they see, and your ears because they hear.”

Matthew 13:16.

With our ruined senses, we look at the light of day and do not see it.  We are unable to hear and we can extend our hands but we do not touch anything. In spite of all the incense of Arabia burning, we will continue on our path without perceiving its aroma.  We eat and we drink, but the taste of the food and the quality of the water escape us.  There lies the difference between Jesus and the rest of the human race.  For Him, the wail of an infant was as powerful as the cry of all humanity, whereas for us it is nothing more than a whine.  For Him, the root of a plant was a yearning toward God, whereas for us it is nothing more than a root hidden beneath the dirt.  

“The value of the little things in life: with each loving look, someone is made happy.  With each word of forgiveness, a piece of my selfishness disappears.  With each kind word, I will decrease several grades of the harshness in the world.  With each little thing that I may offer, another human being will find comfort. With each prayer that I lift up, I will gain an endless amount of mercies. With each smile, I will plant a new hope…with each thorn that I remove, someone will bless my hand. With each act of Faith, I will sing a hymn unto life.  With each rose that I offer, the angels will say: ‘Amen!’”

 

Prayer: Thank you, Lord, for the little details that color our lives. Amen.

 

 

 LA DIFERENCIA

MATEO  13:10-16

“Pero dichosos ustedes, porque tienen ojos

que ven y oídos que oyen”

Mateo 13:16.

Nosotros con nuestros sentidos arruinados, miramos en la luz del día y no vemos. Somos incapaces de oír y podemos extender nuestras manos pero no tocamos.  Aunque arda todo el incienso de Arabia, seguiremos nuestro camino sin percibir su aroma. Comemos y bebemos, pero el sabor de la comida y la calidad del agua huyen de nosotros. Ahí reside la diferencia entre Jesús y el resto de los seres humanos.  Para Él un gemido infantil era tan poderoso como el grito de toda la humanidad, mientras que para nosotros no es más que un gemido.  Para Él la raíz de una planta era un anhelo hacia Dios, y para nosotros no es más que una raíz sepultada en la tierra.

“El valor de las pequeñas cosas: Con cada mirada amorosa, alguien quedará feliz. Con cada palabra de perdón,  se irá una parte de mi egoísmo. Con cada palabra suave, disminuiré unos grados la dureza en el mundo. Con cada cosa que ofrezca, otro ser humano encontrará consuelo. Con cada oración que eleve, ganaré un sin fin de gracias. Con cada sonrisa, plantaré una esperanza… Con cada espina que arranque, alguien bendecirá mi mano. Con cada acto de Fe, cantaré un himno a la vida. Con cada rosa que ofrezca, los ángeles dicen ¡Amén!”

 

Oración: Gracias Señor, por los pequeños detalles que colorean nuestras vidas. Amén.

BEING COURAGEOUS

1 CORINTHIANS 16:13-14

“Have I not commanded you?  Be strong and courageous.  Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”

Joshua 1:9

A father was walking down the street fighting with his boy, reproaching him for his cowardice in front of another little boy, and yelled at him in front of everyone: “I do not want a cowardly son.” That type of reproach is not unusual these days.  The world is so competitive that we’ve begun to believe that only the powerful, the wealthy and the strong can succeed.

It is important to understand that the ideal for a believer is not the quantity of our “strength,” but rather a quality of life based on faith in a living and present Christ.  It is not a matter of an attitude of “endurance with a smile,” but rather of a supernatural predisposition that discovers an opportunity for achieving victory within every instance of opposition (1 Cor. 16:9).  We often think that being courageous means defenselessly confronting an entire army, or saving someone from within a burning building.  And yet courageousness is synonymous with truth, honesty, sincerity and friendship; a person who confronts a problem is more courageous than the person who hides it behind violence.

Being courageous may not be the only thing needed in order to get up and speak up; but it is what is needed in order to sit down and listen. 

Prayer:  Thank you, Lord, for your company; thank you for your teachings; thank you for your Gospel. Amen.

 

 TENER VALOR

1 CORINTIOS 16:13-14

“Mira que te mando que te esfuerces y seas valiente,

no temas ni desmayes, porque el Señor tu Dios

estará contigo donde  quiera que vayas”

Josué 1:9

Aquel padre iba peleando con su niño por la calle, reprochándole su cobardía ante un amiguito y le gritaba delante de todos: “Yo no quiero un hijo cobarde”.  En nuestros días es usual este tipo de regaño. En un mundo tan competitivo se cree que solo los poderosos, los adinerados y  los fuertes pueden vencer.

Es importante comprender que el  ideal del creyente no es la cualidad de los “fuertes”, sino una calidad de vida basada en la fe en un Cristo vivo y presente. No se trata de una actitud de “aguantar con una sonrisa”, sino de una predisposición sobrenatural que descubre en toda oposición una oportunidad para lograr una victoria (1 Co. 16.9).  Muchas veces pensamos que tener valor es enfrentarse sin armas a un ejército completo, o salvar a una persona dentro de un edificio en llamas. Sin embargo valor es sinónimo de verdad, honestidad, sinceridad y amistad, pues es más valiente el que enfrenta un problema que el que lo oculta con violencia.

Tener valor no puede ser solamente lo que se necesita para levantarse y hablar; sino también es lo que se requiere para sentarse y escuchar.

 

Oración: Gracias Señor, por tu compañía, gracias por tus enseñanzas, gracias por tu Evangelio. Amén

KEEP ON PLAYING

ISAIAH 6: 1-8

“And I said, ‘Here am I. Send me!’”

Isaiah 6:8

Hoping to encourage her son’s progress playing the piano, a mother took him to a concert of Paderewski. Once seated, the mother saw a friend and went over to greet her.  The boy, tired of waiting for her, got up and began to wander around until he came to a door that said “Entrance prohibited”.  A bit later, the mother was horrified to find her son seated at the piano keyboard, playing the music to “Mambrú went off to war”.  Suddenly the lights went off onstage.  The great concert pianist made his entrance and whispered in the boy’s ear: “Don’t stop, keep on playing.”  Then Paderewski extended his left hand and began to fill in with the part of the bass, and then he put his right hand around the boy and added a beautiful musical arrangement.  Together they transformed an awkward situation into a creative moment. Such is life when we are with God.  With the hands of the Master, the work we do throughout our lives can be beautiful.  When you embark on a new project, listen to the Master’s voice whispering in your ear:  “Don’t stop, keep playing,” and feel his loving arms around you.  God does not call those who are able. He enables those whom He calls and who respond.

 

Prayer:  I thank you for your love, my God.  I give you thanks for your Son Jesus my Savior, for your Holy Spirit which is always with me. You know everything, Lord; you know that I love you. Amen.

 

 

 

SIGUE   TOCANDO

ISAÍAS 6: 1-8

“Yo respondí: Aquí estoy yo, envíame a mí”

Isaías 6:8

Deseando dar ánimo a su  hijo para que progresara en el piano, una madre lo llevó a un concierto de Paderewski. Después de sentarse, la madre vio a una amiga y fue a saludarla. El niño, cansado de esperar se levantó y comenzó a recorrer el lugar hasta que llegó a una puerta que decía “Prohibida la entrada”. Poco después, la madre vio horrorizada  a su hijo sentado al teclado, tocando las notas de “Mambrú se fue a la guerra”.  De repente las luces cayeron sobre el escenario. El gran maestro hizo su entrada y susurró al oído del niño: “no pares, continúa tocando”. Entonces Paderewski extendió su mano izquierda y empezó a llenar la parte del bajo, luego puso su mano derecha alrededor del niño y agregó un bello arreglo musical. Juntos, transformaron una situación embarazosa en una situación creativa. Así son las cosas cuando estamos con Dios. Con las manos del Maestro, las obras de nuestras vidas pueden ser hermosas. Al emprender nuevos proyectos, escucha  la voz del Maestro susurrando en tu oído: “No pares, continúa tocando”, y siente sus brazos amorosos a tu alrededor.  Dios no llama a aquellos que están capacitados. El capacita a aquellos que son llamados y responden.

 

Oración: Dios mío, gracias  por tu amor, gracias por tu Hijo Jesús mi Salvador, por tu Espíritu Santo que siempre me acompaña, Tú lo sabes todo Señor, tu sabes que te amo. Amén.

WHEN THERE SEEMS TO BE NO HOPE LEFT

JOHN 11: 38-44

“Father, I thank you that you have heard me. I knew that you always hear me, but I said this for the benefit of the people standing here, that they may believe that you sent me.”

 

John 11:41-42

At this moment in history, when Jesus is standing before the tomb of Lazarus and gives the command to remove the stone, Martha is focusing on the adverse circumstances. How many times have we been on the verge of testifying to God’s marvelous works and like Martha, we become prisoners to pessimism?  How often have we felt that it is useless to bring a painful or uncomfortable situation to light? When facing complicated situations, such as illnesses, conflicts or personal crises, we prefer to leave the stone in place, to “leave well enough alone.”

And yet, Jesus insisted; he invited Martha, and he invites us, to take one more step beyond human logic, and to believe in divine “logic,” which gives life to the dead and produces “impossible” changes. No circumstance can withstand the power of God. Nothing and no one can stop his eternal plans. No person, no matter how greatly one may have fallen, is outside the reach of His mercy and grace.

 

Prayer: Lord, increase our hope and our trust in you, not because of our merit, but because of your mercy and grace. Amen.

 

 CUANDO PARECE QUE

YA NO HAY ESPERANZA

JUAN 11: 38-44

“Padre, te doy gracias porque me has escuchado. Yo sé que siempre me escuchas, pero lo digo por el bien de esta gente que está aquí, para que crean que tú me has enviado”

Juan 11:41-42

En este momento de la historia, cuando Jesús está frente a la tumba de Lázaro y da la orden de quitar la piedra, Marta se centra en las circunstancias adversas. ¿Cuántas veces estamos a punto de ser testigos de la obra maravillosa de Dios y como Martha, somos presa del pesimismo? ¿Cuántas veces hemos sentido que es inútil sacar a la luz una situación dolorosa o incómoda? Frente a situaciones complicadas, como enfermedades, conflictos, crisis personales, preferimos “dejar la piedra puesta”.

Sin embargo, Jesús insistió; invitó a Marta, y nos invita a nosotros, a dar un paso más allá de la lógica humana, y creer en la "lógica" divina, la que da vida a los muertos y produce cambios "imposibles". No hay circunstancia que supere el poder de Dios. No hay nada ni nadie que pueda detener sus propósitos eternos. No hay persona, por profundo que haya caído, que esté fuera del alcance de su Gracia.

 

Oración: Señor, aumenta nuestra esperanza y nuestra confianza en ti, no por nuestros méritos, sino por tu gracia. Amén.

PATIENCE IN TIMES OF TESTING

HEBREWS 6:-1-12

“...imitate those who through faith and patience inherit what has been promised.”

Hebrews 6:12

The past generations of those who have given testimony to the love of God under the most difficult of situations, are always among us. They are that great cloud of witnesses who are the foundation of our own hope.  Their examples of patience and perseverance help us to exceed any adversity in the present. The metaphor of the blacksmith who in order to forge steel must submit it to elevated temperatures upon which its quality will depend, has much in common with the capability God gives us in the midst of the most difficult conflicts. In times of testing God transforms our laments into dance, and He allows us to see the salvation and light that lies beyond pain and injustice. Let us run the race we have before us with patience, acknowledging the testimony of those who went before us.

 

Prayer: Lord, we give you thanks because, through the testimony of faith of past generations, we have learned the great importance of the value of patience in order to confront our difficulties.  Amen.

Las pasadas generaciones que han dado fe del amor a Dios bajo las más difíciles situaciones, nos acompañan siempre. Son esa gran nube de testigos que fundamenta nuestra propia esperanza. Sus ejemplos de paciencia y perseverancia nos ayudan a sobrepasar cualquier adversidad en el presente. La metáfora del herrero que para forjar el acero debe someterlo a elevadas temperaturas de las que dependerá su calidad, tiene mucho que ver con la capacidad que Dios nos da de fortalecernos en medio de las más difíciles contiendas. En medio de las pruebas Dios transforma nuestro lamento en danza, y más allá del dolor y la injusticia, nos permite  ver la salvación y la luz. Corramos con paciencia la carrera que tenemos por delante, reconociendo el testimonio de los que nos antecedieron.

 

Oración: Señor, te damos gracias porque con el testimonio de fe de las pasadas generaciones, hemos aprendido cuán importante es el valor de la paciencia para enfrentarnos a las situaciones difíciles. Amén

HAPPINESS: WHERE IS IT FOUND?

MATTHEW 6:25-34

“But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”

Matthew 6:33

A legend tells the story of several goblins who got together to practice mischief and agreed to take something away from all human beings. So they decided to hide happiness.  One of them suggested that they hide it on the highest mountain, but they realized that human beings have the strength to climb to the top and find it. Another suggested hiding it at the bottom of the sea, but they understood that human beings are very curious and would not stop looking until they found it.  And thus several ideas were discarded, including the one to hide it on a faraway planet, since human beings were also gifted with the intelligence to build a rocket ship and find it.  Finally one of the goblins said: “Let’s hide it within themselves; they’ll be so busy looking for it elsewhere that they’ll never find it.” All of them agreed and that is why up until this day humans spend their lives seeking happiness, without realizing that they are carrying it within themselves.  The greatest happiness that we have is the presence of God in our lives. Let us therefore do His work and thereby rid ourselves of struggle and anxiety. 

Prayer: Lord, enable us to be contented people, that we may not complain so much and that we may live in gratefulness for the happiness of your eternal company.

 FELICIDAD, ¿DÓNDE ENCONTRARLA?

MATEO 6:25-34

“Más bien, busquen primeramente el reino de Dios y su justicia, y todas estas cosas les serán añadidas”

Mateo 6:33

Cuenta una leyenda que en una ocasión varios duendes se reunieron para hacer una travesura y acordaron quitarle algo a los seres humanos. Decidieron pues esconder la felicidad. Uno de ellos sugirió esconderla en la cima del monte, pero se dieron cuenta de que los seres humanos poseen la fuerza como para subir a la cima y encontrarla. Otro sugirió esconderla en el fondo del mar, pero comprendieron que los seres humanos son muy curiosos y no pararían hasta encontrarla. Y así varias ideas fueron desechadas, incluso la de esconderla en un planeta lejano, pues también los seres humanos fueron dotados con la inteligencia como para construir una nave y encontrarla. Hasta que un duende dijo: “Escondámosla dentro de ellos mismos, estarán tan ocupados buscándola afuera que nunca la encontrarán”. Todos estuvieron de acuerdo y es por eso que hasta hoy el ser humano se pasa la vida buscando la felicidad, sin darse cuenta que la lleva consigo. La mayor felicidad que tenemos es la presencia de Dios en nuestras vidas. Trabajemos pues en su obra  y desechemos el afán y la ansiedad.

Oración: Señor, permite que seamos personas conformes, que no nos quejemos tanto y que vivamos agradecidos por la felicidad de tu compañía eterna.

A MESSAGE OF HOPE AND STRENGTH

ISAIAH 41:8-13

“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you...”

Isaiah 41: 10

The Message which the prophet brings us is a message of hope and strength.

We live in a world filled with every kind of sadness and difficulty. Even our friends can turn against us; family members can abandon and forget us. It is probable that we will be left without any help for our dismay and disappointments. But God takes interest in our lives. He knows our needs, and He knows what is best for us and in the end He will provide them for us.

What we desire for our lives is probably good, but it is our duty to trust in God’s wisdom and counsel, given that He will provide what is best for us. The promise is that He will be with us, which is why we need not be fearful; that He will help us and therefore we need not be dismayed; that He is ready to help us and to uphold us with his righteous right hand.

Prayer: Thank you, Lord, for always seeking the best for us. Help us to understand this. Amen.

 UN MENSAJE DE ESPERANZA Y ALIENTO

ISAÍAS 41:8-13

“No temas, porque yo estoy contigo; no desmayes,

porque yo soy tu Dios que te esfuerzo...”

Isaías 41: 10

El mensaje que el profeta nos trae es un mensaje de esperanza  y de aliento.

En este mundo encontramos toda clase de tristezas y dificultades. Aun los amigos se pueden volver en contra nuestra, los familiares pueden desampararnos y olvidarnos. Es probable que quedemos sin ningún socorro a nuestros desconsuelos y desilusiones. Pero Dios está interesado en nuestra vida. Él sabe lo que necesitamos, sabe qué es lo mejor y al final nos proveerá de ello.

Es probable que lo que nosotros anhelamos para nuestra vida sea bueno, pero es nuestro deber confiar en la sabiduría y el consejo de Dios, puesto que Él nos dará lo mejor. La promesa es que ha de estar con nosotros, y por eso no debemos temer; que ha de auxiliarnos y por eso no debemos desmayar; que está dispuesto a ayudarnos y a sustentarnos con la diestra de su justicia.

Oración: Gracias Señor, por buscar siempre nuestro bien. Ayúdanos a comprenderlo. Amén.

SOMETHING TO EAT

GENESIS 18:1-8

“… Let me get you something to eat…”

Genesis 18:5

Abraham’s primary concern was the well-being of his visitors: water, bread, and rest.  Today we also do our best for our visitors.  But do we always offer our hospitality to God? The Lord is able and willing to be invited into our homes and our hearts, if we will only open them to Him. But we frequently close the door, refusing Him entry, forfeiting His direction and strength for confronting the problems of our daily lives. God is the primary necessity for our spiritual lives in the same way that bread is the primary need of our physical bodies. Many of us require much time and many experiences, pains and frustrations before we are able to recognize this need, but when we do, we then realize that we have the privilege of inviting God to share our existence and to ask Him for the Bread of Life.  Let us always remember that phrase that we have so often seen in the home of someone we've visited: “Jesus is first in this home, a guest at our table, and a witness to our conversations”.

Prayer: Jesus, allow us always to discover you as a traveling companion in our lives. Amen.

UN BOCADO DE PAN

GÉNESIS 18:1-8

“… y traeré un bocado de pan…”

Génesis 18:5

La primera preocupación de Abraham fue el bienestar de sus visitantes: agua, pan y descanso. Hoy también hacemos lo mejor que podemos para  nuestros visitantes. Pero ¿mostramos siempre hospitalidad a Dios? El Señor está dispuesto y deseoso de ser invitado a nuestros hogares y corazones, si sólo se los abrimos a Él. Pero frecuentemente cerramos la puerta, negándole entrada, perdiendo su orientación y fortaleza para enfrentar los problemas de nuestra vida diaria. Dios es la primera necesidad de nuestras vidas espirituales de la misma manera que el pan es la demanda primaria de nuestros cuerpos físicos. Muchos de nosotros necesitamos mucho tiempo y muchas experiencias, dolores y frustraciones antes de llegar a reconocer esta necesidad, pero cuando la reconocemos, entonces nos damos cuenta de que tenemos el privilegio de invitar a Dios a que comparta nuestra existencia y pedirle el Pan de Vida. Recordemos siempre aquella frase que hemos  visto muchas veces en alguna casa a la cual hemos ido de visita: “Jesús es el primero en este lugar, huésped a nuestra mesa, testigo de nuestras conversaciones”

Oración: Jesús, permite que siempre podamos descubrirte como compañero de camino en nuestras vidas. Amén.
