ABSORBING THE TEACHINGS OF JESUS

Mark 9: 33-37

But they were silent, for on the way they had argued with one another who was the greatest.

Mark 9: 34 (NIV)

The absorbent mind was the name given by Dr. Maria Montessori, to the natural ability of human beings to receive, process and store in the brain and without any effort, everything that comes from the surrounding environment. This characteristic is present in the person during the first six years of life. This is an ability that we lose as our verbal language and our bodies develop. Never again will we be able to absorb so much and in such a short time. If only Jesus’ disciples had been such young children! Jesus’ ministry was one of service with concrete actions: he embraced with body and soul the rejected and dispossessed. It would have been very easy for a child to absorb the essence of the Master’s teaching.

Jesus, always humble and patient, sits among his brothers, and explains to them again, with words, that which they hadn’t been able to comprehend with actions.

 

Prayer: Jesus, thank you for never tiring of teaching us that which you want us to understand. Help us to become children, and to grow with you in our hearts. Amen.

ABSORBER LAS ENSEÑANZAS DE JESÚS

Marcos 9: 33-37

Los discípulos no contestaron nada, porque habían estado discutiendo cuál de ellos era el más importante.

Marcos 9: 34

La mente absorbente fue el nombre dado por la doctora María Montessori, a la capacidad natural del ser humano, de recibir, procesar y almacenar en el cerebro y sin ningún esfuerzo, todo lo que proviene del ambiente que lo rodea. Característica vigente en la persona, durante los primeros seis años de vida. Esta es una capacidad la vamos perdiendo a medida que se desarrolla nuestro lenguaje verbal y nuestro cuerpo, nunca más volvemos a ser capaces de absorber tanto y en tan poco tiempo.

¡Si los discípulos de Jesús hubieran sido niños tan pequeños! El ministerio de Jesús fue de servicio con acciones concretas: abrazaba con el cuerpo y con el alma a los rechazados y desposeídos. Hubiese sido muy fácil para un niño absorber la esencia de la enseñanza del Maestro.

Jesús, siempre humilde y paciente, se sienta junto a sus hermanos, y les vuelve a explicar con palabras, lo que ellos no habían podido comprender con hechos.

 

Oración: Jesús, gracias por nunca cansarte de enseñarnos eso que quieres que entendamos. Ayúdanos a volver a ser niños, y a crecer contigo en el corazón. Amén.

INVITATION TO PRAYER

Acts 1: 12-14

They all joined together constantly in prayer

Acts 1:14 (NIV)

We live daily in difficult situations where worries and problems constitute enormous burdens that we cannot bear, where decision making is difficult, and we don’t know with any certainty what the right option would be.

Why do we become infatuated with wanting to be the ones in control of our lives and ignore the fact that we have a God who knows what we need and who is always ready to help us?

Today’s text tells us about what happened after Jesus’ farewell (departure). I think that on that return trip ALL OF THEM were worried about how they would face their lives from that moment on. And without intending to do so, they bequeathed us a Great Message: to unite in prayer. Pray and pray to God continually. Let us sit in peace, in silence, and surrender to the Lord all that occupies and worries us this day.

 

Prayer: Loving Father, forgive us for the times we ignore you and want to be the drivers of our lives. Teach us, through the Holy Spirit, and guide us to stay on the path. Amen.

INVITACIÓN A LA ORACIÓN

Hechos 1: 12-14

Todos estos perseveraban unánimes en oración y ruego.

Hechos 1:14

Vivimos diariamente situaciones difíciles en las que las preocupaciones y los problemas constituyen enormes cargas que no podemos soportar, donde la toma de decisiones se nos dificulta y no sabemos con certeza cuál sería la opción correcta.

¿Por qué nos encaprichamos en querer ser sólo nosotros quienes llevemos el control, las riendas de nuestras vidas, e ignoramos que tenemos un Dios que sabe lo que necesitamos y siempre está dispuesto a socorrernos?

El texto de hoy nos habla de lo acontecido después de la despedida (de la partida) de Jesús. Pienso que en ese viaje de regreso TODOS ELLOS estaban preocupados por cómo enfrentarían sus vidas a partir de ese momento. Y sin proponérselo nos legaron un Gran Mensaje: Unirnos en oración. Orar y rogar a Dios continuamente. Sentémonos en paz, en silencio, y entreguemos al Señor todo lo que nos ocupa y preocupa en este día.

 

Oración: Amado Padre, perdona las veces que te ignoramos y queremos ser los conductores de nuestras vidas. Enséñanos, a través del Espíritu Santo, y guíanos para permanecer en la senda. Amén.

PENTECOST

Romans 8: 22-27

For in hope we were saved. Now hope that is seen is not hope, for who hopes for what one already sees?

Romans 8:24 (NRSV)

This Sunday our Christian family celebrates Pentecost, a time where we remember the coming of the Holy Spirit, the third space of our Trinitarian faith. God’s greatness has no limits. After giving us, through Jesus, that ethical beacon that would guide the principles of peace and life in abundance that he aspired to for all his people, he now has a sublime culmination through that permanent presence, that Spirit who is close, intercessor, knower of our needs and source of consolation. This day, as we acclaim the fire of the Spirit in our hearts, let us think of these words of Paul, which offer an unwavering assurance of God’s care and protection through the Holy Spirit. One tongue, love; one fire, faith; one church, the need of our neighbor and the little ones of this world. May the hope of salvation brought by Jesus Christ have its fullness through the presence of the Holy Spirit in our actions and in our lives.

 

Prayer: Spirit of love, kindle in our hearts the joy of your truth, strengthen our faith, and manifest yourself always through our hands and voices. Amen.

PENTECOSTES

Romanos 8: 22-27

Porque ya es nuestra la salvación, pero su plenitud es todavía objeto de esperanza.

Romanos 8:24

Este domingo nuestra familia cristiana celebra Pentecostés, tiempo donde recordamos la venida del Espíritu Santo, el tercer espacio de nuestra fe trinitaria. La grandeza de Dios no tiene límites, después de entregarnos a través de Jesús ese faro ético, que guiaría los principios de esa paz y vida en abundancia que tanto aspiraba para todo su pueblo, ahora tiene una culminación sublime a través de esa presencia permanente, de ese Espíritu cercano, intercesor, conocedor de nuestras necesidades y fuente de consuelo. Este día, cuando aclamemos el fuego del Espíritu en nuestros corazones, pensemos en estas palabras de Pablo, que ofrecen una seguridad inquebrantable en el cuidado y la protección de Dios a través del Santo espíritu. Una sola lengua, el amor; un solo fuego, la fe; una sola iglesia, la necesidad del prójimo y los pequeños de este mundo. Que la esperanza de la salvación que trajo Jesucristo, tenga su plenitud a través de la presencia del Espíritu Santo en nuestras acciones y en nuestras vidas.

 

Oración: Espíritu de amor, enciende nuestros corazones con el gozo de tu verdad, fortalece nuestra fe, y manifiéstate siempre a través de nuestras manos y voces. Amén.
