GOD’S RIVER IS FULL OF WATER
1 JOHN 4:7-21

“Whoever is thirsty, let him come; and whoever wishes, let him take the free gift of the water of life.”

Revelation 22:17

One morning, I was walking along the edge of a river in the countryside where I have often gone since my childhood.  Watching the running water and listening to the pleasant sound it made, I suddenly realized that the water in that river had never stopped flowing, neither during the day nor at night, since time immemorial.  And then I remembered the passage in Psalm 65:9 “The streams of God are filled with water…”

Such is God’s grace.  It tirelessly waters our lives with its inexhaustible love.  The river of God never dries up, because God will never stop loving us!

The water level of a river increases or diminishes according to the absence or abundance of rainfall, but God will always remain faithful; his love never changes.  Therefore, regardless of who we are, independent of our pasts, if we are burdened or thirsty, we can drink from the river of God by believing in his love and personally receiving it.

In order that our lives do not dry up, we need to drink from the water of God’s river.  Let us reflect upon this and procure that inexhaustible water today and always.

Prayer:  Thank you for your eternal river that never dries up.  We pray that we will always thirst to drink from it. Amen.

EL RÍO DE  DIOS ESTÁ LLENO DE AGUA
1 JUAN  4:7-21

Thursday, February 25 ONLY A SMALL STAIN ROMANS 3:22-23

Thursday, February 25
ONLY A SMALL STAIN
ROMANS 3:22-23
“For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it.”
James 2:10

It was my nephew’s wedding, and I had donned the nicest shirt I owned, which brought out the colors of my tie with its brilliant white.  Unfortunately, when I put my pen away within the interior pocket of my suit, the ink made a small stain.  I thought that a bit of water would solve the problem, but the ink spread and the small stain became a large one.  The shirt was no longer fit to be worn to the wedding.

Our lives often appear this way in God’s eyes.  They are stained, not fit to be in his presence, due to even a little white lie.  The least fault makes a sinner out of me.

You may be saying:  “But we cannot compare a person who has only told lies with a common criminal.”  There is effectively a great difference between those two with respect to life in society.  This is why penal law classifies offenses in different categories and applies a greater penalty to the most serious ones.  But God does not judge according to human laws.  He looks at our hearts, our thoughts and actions.  In His eyes, all of us, without exception, are stained by sin, even if we aren’t in prison. But thanks to Jesus we can all be forgiven.  We do not have to pay for our sins.  He already has.

Prayer: Thank you my gracious God, for showing your infinite love towards us by sending your Son to die on the cross for our sins.  Forgive us, Lord, for all the times that we sin.  Renew us.  Amen.

SOLO UNA PEQUEÑA MANCHA
ROMANOS 3:22-23

Wednesday, February 24 WE ARE TESTED LUKE 16:1-15

Wednesday, February 24
WE ARE TESTED
LUKE 16:1-15

“Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with very much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much.”
Luke 16:10

The Christian life is wrought with details in which we often do not act justly.  We accept small lies, we don’t guard our bad humor, we don’t see the multitude of opportunities to show true love to our neighbor through a friendly word or a favor that we could do at just the right moment; and in this manner, we prepare the way for more serious errors.

A person who is looking for work, or someone who is aspiring for a position with some responsibility, is not surprised to have to present himself or herself to take exams testing for memory and decision-making. Some of these tests can seem childish, but those who created them believe that they reveal the character and behavior of the person.  In the same way, God puts each of us to the test in the details of our daily lives.

In the same manner, the Christian who listens to God is called to be trustworthy in the small things of life’s daily matters.  It is through them that you learn to know yourself and also to know your God.

Prayer: Help me, Lord, to never deceive you, to always be a Christian who is trustworthy and prepared to work towards your Will. Amen.

TENEMOS EXÁMENES
LUCAS 16:1-15

Tuesday, February 23 THE POWER THAT COMES FROM WITHIN US LUKE 6:17-19

Tuesday, February 23
THE POWER THAT COMES FROM WITHIN US

LuKE 6:17-19

“And the people all tried to touch him, because power was coming from him and healing them all.”

Luke 6:19
Jesus’s ability to heal, or miracle-working, was one of the most explicit signs of God’s presence in that simple man from Galilee.  If there were other famous healers and miracle-workers at that time in the Holy Land, the way in which Jesus worked his miracles, I am certain, were totally different.  Upon being touched by Jesus, the man or woman in whom the miracle was worked was not only healed of his or her physical condition, but also given a new social condition, by the restoration of religious and civil rights, and self-esteem…It was not just healing for the sake of healing.

The sanctity and integrity of the human body as a beautiful creation of God is defended by the Nazarene Teacher to the utmost.  Thus, he frequently used the terms salvation and healing without distinction, because for him anything that contributed to the well-being of humans and their communities, was also a priority for God in his saving vocation and for the fullness of his kingdom.

We cannot lose sight of this perspective of Jesus today, and we should strive in order that our actions are marked by wholeness and integrity.  Everything we do should keep in mind the total dignity of human beings.  In this way we will be approaching the new purpose of becoming the human beings that God showed us through his son Jesus of Nazareth.

Prayer: God of goodness, give us integral health.  We wish to be worthy followers of your light. Amen.

El poder que sale de nosotros

Lucas 6:17-19

Monday, February 22 AND IN THE MEANTIME...? JOHN 20:31

 Monday, February 22
AND IN THE MEANTIME...?
JOHN 20:31

“The disciples were called Christians first at Antioch.”

Acts 11:26

A state leader, now deceased, declared to a journalist: “I was born a Christian, will probably die one.  However, in the meantime…?

He undoubtedly meant that he had been born into a practicing family, that he’d been baptized, and that at the time of his funeral he would probably receive a religious burial ceremony, but that in between those two events, he would lead his life as he pleased.  And this is how many people see things. But is this really what it means to be a Christian?

If we turn to the Bible, the Word of God, we don’t see anywhere that one becomes a Christian through heredity or culture, nor that one becomes one through the act of being baptized, of attending church services or mass, or even by leading an irreproachable life. No, being an authentic Christian means being a disciple of Jesus Christ.

In order to become one, there is a two-fold condition:  first, one must acknowledge that Jesus Christ is the Son of God; secondly, that his death and resurrection permit us to be reconciled with God. It is a new spiritual birth and the point of departure of a new life, of a personal relationship with God. He makes each one of us into a different person, transformed, having found a meaning to one’s life.  It is also important to follow this pathway of discipleship that Jesus has shown us.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank you for dying for our sins.  Help me to serve you each day with love and humility and to follow your example.  In your name we pray. Amen.

¿ENTRETANTO...?
JUAN 20:31

Sunday, February 21 JESUS IS MY SOVEREIGN KING ACTS 4:23-31

Sunday, February 21

JESUS IS MY SOVEREIGN KING                                                                                                                                  ACTS 4:23-31

“And I will appoint him to be my firstborn,
the most exalted of the kings of the earth.”

Psalm 89: 27

With nostalgia I remember that hymn, which I haven’t sung for some time now: “Jesus is my sovereign king.”  I like it as much for its lyrics as for its music.

Perhaps for some people it may seem obsolete in our times to speak of the concept of a God who is like a sovereign or king.

There are few remaining governments led by kings or sovereigns, and those that do remain are more symbolic than real. But there is a reality, by whatever name we may give it: that our God is the most sublime, as the Psalmist reminds us.

One of the greatest postulates of the Protestant Reformation was precisely this concept of God’s sovereignty. There is no human, institution, or anything that can occupy that position. The human being of our times is subject to numerous temptations of sovereignty: the sovereignty of fashion, of parties, of money, of sex, etc. None of these in and of themself is evil; the evil comes when we make them gods.

Prayer:  Father, teach me to recognize you as my king and Lord. Forgive me when I offend you with my actions, by putting the mission which you have entrusted to me last in the list of my priorities. Amen.

Saturday, February 20 PRAY JAMES 4:1-10

Saturday, February 20

PRAY
JAMES 4:1-10

“You want something but don’t get it. You kill and covet, but you cannot have what you want.  You quarrel and fight. You do not have, because you do not ask God.  When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.”
James 4:2-3

“The only thing I have left to do is to pray,” said a person experiencing a difficult situation. He had sought help everywhere to no avail. Finally, he approached God as a last resort.

This is a frequent attitude. We gather up our own forces to address our difficulties; and when we realize this is insufficient we ask some friend for help, and if this doesn’t help us either, we turn to God. Mistakenly, we only turn to Him when all human resources have failed.

Clearly, we shouldn’t pray to God as if we were making a petition to human beings, saying, “Can you help me get this or that?” One has to say to God, “Lord, you know what I need. Give me that which is good. Submit my heart to your will.”

There’s something we should be quite clear about: We shouldn’t force God’s hand.

Prayer:  Forgive us Lord, because we always want our desires to be imposed upon your will. Help us to understand and accept it. Amen.

ORAR
SANTIAGO 4:1-10

Somete mi corazón a tu voluntad”

Ayúdanos a entenderla y aceptarla. Amén.
