BE LIKE JOB

Job 42

I had heard of you by the hearing of the ear, but now my eyes see you;  therefore I despise myself, and repent in dust and ashes

Job 42:5-6 (NRSV)

            If Job thought that everything would always work out for him if he took care of his behavior, he would not have problems or difficulties, how wrong he was!  God had given him many blessings, both material and spiritual, with a beautiful family and an important position. His friends considered him an example of someone who does things well and therefore receives divine blessing.

            But one day bad news knocked on his door: death, catastrophes, illnesses and sadness managed to make his existence bitter. His world changed from one moment to the next. How could something like this happen to Job if he was good?

            The words of his wife and the counsel of his friends did not help him overcome depression. However, talking to God after weeks of drawbacks and discomfort, he understood that no one is exempt from suffering inconveniences and that our Creator is much wiser than we are. He abandoned self-pity and decided to change his attitude. Only then was he able to enjoy a full life.

            Those who decide to trust Jesus as their personal Savior learn to see life from another perspective. They allow God to occupy first place in their interests and trust Him alone.

 

Prayer: Lord, you are the owner of our destinies. May we never doubt that you will always be by our side to accompany us and give us the necessary strength to live. Amen.

SER COMO JOB

Job 42

De oídas te había oído; mas ahora mis ojos te ven. Por tanto me aborrezco, y me arrepiento en polvo y ceniza.

Job 42:5-6

            Si Job pensaba que todo siempre le saldría bien y que mientras cuidara su conducta, no tendría problemas ni dificultades ¡cuán equivocado estaba! Dios le había dado muchas bendiciones, tanto materiales como espirituales, con  una familia hermosa y una posición importante. Sus amigos lo consideraban un ejemplo de alguien que hace las cosas bien y por eso recibe la bendición divina.

            Pero un día las mala noticias llamaron a su puerta: muerte, catástrofes, enfermedades, padecimientos y tristezas lograron amargar su existencia. Su mundo cambió de un momento a otro. ¿Cómo era posible que algo así le ocurriera a Job, si era tan bueno?

            Las palabras de su esposa y los consejos de sus amigos y malestar, comprendió que nadie está exento de sufrir inconvenientes y que nuestro Creador es mucho más sabio que nosotros. Abandonó la autocompasión y decidió cambiar de actitud. Recién entonces pudo disfrutar de una vida plena.

            Quienes deciden confiar en Jesús como Salvador personal, aprenden a ver la vida desde otra perspectiva. Permiten que Dios ocupe el primer lugar en sus intereses, y confían en Él solamente.

 

Oración: Señor, tú eres el dueño de nuestros  destinos. Que nunca dudemos de que siempre estarás a nuestro lado para acompañarnos

DEATH

Psalm 23:4

And just as it is appointed for mortals to die once, and after that the judgement,

            Sometimes it seems as though death surrounds us, as though it is everywhere. Every day we hear what happened to this  or that person and that saddens us. It is much more so when someone we know dies; we realize that we could be next.

            Human beings have a certain life span. Some live for many years, but others do not. Diseases, violence, natural disasters, wars and now Covid 19, and so many other evils, have the power to take people’s lives

            Be that as it may, at some point we will have to face our own death. Are we prepared?

            The Bible teaches that if we believe in Jesus, and receive him as Lord and Savior, we will obtain the gift of eternal life. That means that our existence will not end the day we die, but that our spirit will continue with God.

            What a joy it is to know that we can enjoy a happy life from now and always with Jesus in our hearts!

 

Prayer: Thank you Lord, for the new life that have in Christ, and for the hope of eternal life also given by Him. Amen

LA MUERTE

Salmo 23:4

Y  de la manera que está establecido para los hombres que mueran una sola vez, y después de esto el juicio

Hebreos 9:27

            A veces parece como si la muerte nos rodeara, como si estuviera por todas partes. Cada día escuchamos lo que le pasó a tal o más cual persona, y eso nos entristece. Mucho más cuando muere alguien que conocemos, nos damos cuenta de que nosotros podríamos ser los siguientes.

            Los seres humanos disponemos de un determinado tiempo de vida. Algunos viven muchos años, pero otros no. Las enfermedades, la violencia, las catástrofes naturales, los accidentes, las guerras y ahora por último la Covid 19, y tantos otros males, tienen el poder de arrancarle la vida a las personas.

            Pero sea como fuere, en algún momento tendremos que enfrentar nuestra propia muerte. ¿Estamos preparados?

            La Biblia enseña que si creemos en Jesús, y lo recibimos como Señor y Salvador, obtendremos el regalo de la vida eterna. Eso significa que nuestra existencia no se terminará el día en que muramos, sino que nuestro espíritu seguirá  junto a Dios.

            ¡Qué alegría es saber que podemos disfrutar una vida feliz desde ahora y para siempre con Jesús en nuestro corazón!

 

Oración: Gracias Señor, por la vida nueva que tenemos en Cristo, y por la esperanza de la vida eterna también dada por Él. Amén.

WITHOUT VIOLENCE

Genesis 6:11

Therefore rid yourselves of all sordidness and rank growth of wickedness, and welcome with meekness the implanted word that has the power to save your souls.

James 1:21

            Since the beginning of humanity, violence has been one of the biggest problems that people have had to face. Lawsuits, arguments, abuse and death are some of the elements that have clouded interpersonal relationships since ancient times.

            There are various forms of violence, and although each has its own characteristics, they all coincide in lack of respect for others. Some people violate others through words. Here are included expressions of contempt, insults, destructive criticism, gossip and rumors, discouragement, and discrimination. There are those who exercise physical violence, beat people, steal, commit homicides, and various other abuses.  There are those who mistreat by showing indifference to people who need help. That is a covert form of violence that harms, even without it being recognized as such.

            When a person understands the great love of God for his creation and decides to trust in Jesus as the savior of his life, he abandons all violent attitudes and becomes a person who brings hope and peace everywhere. Do we allow Jesus to direct our thoughts, feelings, and attitudes? Let us seek him, and let peace and love be the sign  of our character.

 

Prayer:  Forgive us Lord, because sometimes we exercise violence towards others. Eliminate from our lives everything that harms other human beings. Amen.

SIN VIOLENCIA

            Desde los comienzos de la humanidad, la violencia ha sido uno de los mayores problemas que las personas han tenido que enfrentar. Pleitos, discusiones, abusos y muerte, son varios de los elementos que han enturbiado las relaciones interpersonales desde la antigüedad.

            Existen diversas formas de violencia, y aunque cada una  tenga sus propias características, todas coinciden en la falta de respeto por los demás. Algunas personas violentan a los demás a través de las palabras. Aquí están incluidas las expresiones de menosprecio, insultos, críticas destructivas, chismes y rumores, el desaliento, la discriminación. También están los que ejercen la violencia física, golpean a la gente, roban, cometen homicidios, y diversos maltratos. Hay quienes maltratan al mostrar indiferencia hacia las personas que necesitan ayuda. Es una forma de violencia encubierta que perjudica, muchas veces sin notarlo.

            Cuando una persona comprende el gran amor de Dios por su creación y decide confiar en Jesús como Salvador de su vida, abandona toda actitud violenta y se transforma en una persona que lleva esperanza y paz a todo lugar. ¿Permitimos que Jesús dirija nuestros pensamientos, sentimientos y actitudes? Busquémoslo y permitamos que la paz y el amor sean los distintivos de nuestro carácter.

 

Oración: Perdónanos Señor, porque a veces podemos ejercer violencia hacia los demás. Elimina de nuestras vidas todo lo que dañe a nuestros semejantes. Amén.

Anniversary of the Sancti Spíritus Presbyterian Reformed Church

ADORATION

Psalm 95:6-7

Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving and honor and power and might be to our God forever and ever!

Revelation 7:12 (NRSV)

            Worshiping God is giving him our being and telling him how much we love him. Acknowledging him as our Creator  and thanking him for everything that he did, is doing, and will do for us, is an intimate contact of the heart in which we dedicate our lives and everything we are, say and do to him.

            There are many ways to worship God. For example, through music and songs we can express our feelings in a poetic way. Our spirit will rejoice when accompanying the melodies with words of gratitude, and it can be a way to get closer to God. 

            When we worship God, we do everthing possible to please him. That means that in addition to a specific activity that the Church carries out when it meets, everything we say and do must be full of adoration.

            Each time the words that come from our lips bless others, the activity of our hands helps to improve the world, and our conduct is in accordance with what the Bible teaches about a follower of Jesus, our life is a continuing worship of God.  

 

Prayer:  I love you;  I adore you, my God. You are my highest God. May my life and my actions honor you and worship you every day.  Amen

Aniversario IPR de Sancti Spíritus

EN ADORACION

Salmo 95:6-7

La bendición y la gloria y la sabiduría y la acción de gracias y la honra y el poder y la fortaleza, sean a nuestro Dios por los siglos de los siglos, amén.

Apocalipsis 7:12

            Adorar a Dios es darle nuestro ser y decirlo cuánto lo amamos. Reconocerlo como nuestro Creador y agradecerle por todo lo que hizo, hace y hará por nosotros, es un contacto íntimo del corazón en que le dedicamos la vida y todo lo que somos, decimos y hacemos.

            Existen muchas maneras de adorar a Dios. Por ejemplo: a través de la música y las canciones podemos expresarle nuestros sentimientos en forma poética. Nuestro espíritu se regocijará al acompañar las melodías con palabras de gratitud, y puede ser un modo de acercarnos a Dios.

            Cuando adoramos a Dios hacemos todo lo posible por agradarlo. Eso hace que además de una actividad específica que realiza la Iglesia cuando se reúne, todo lo que digamos y hagamos debe estar lleno de adoración.

            Cada vez que las palabras que salen de nuestros labios bendicen a los demás, la actividad de nuestras manos ayuda  a mejorar al mundo, y nuestra conducta está de acuerdo con lo que enseña la Biblia acerca de un seguidor de Jesús, nuestra vida es una adoración continua para Dios.

 

Oración: Te amo, te adoro, Dios mío. Eres mi Dios Altísimo. Que mi vida y mis acciones te honren y te alaben todos los días. Amén.

SHELTER

Psalm 91

You who live in the shelter of the Most High, who abide in the shadow of the Almighty,

Psalm 91:1 (NRSV)

            It is interesting to observe how the birds take care of their young. During the entire process prior to birth, the young grow inside the egg under the shelter provided by their mother. In the safety of the nest built high above, the mother perches on her chicks to keep them warm and spreads her wings to provide shelter. In this way, the birds enjoy an ideal and safe environment to achieve full development.

            In several passages, the Bible uses that same image to speak of the care that God gives to those of us who trust in Him.

            In life there will be times when we experience pain, loneliness, and need someone to understand us and encourage us to continue. [We may need] A hug at the right time, a word of encouragement when strength runs out, advice from a friend to help us make the right decisions, congratulations when we achieve success, consolation when things don’t work out as we wish,  a coat when the storms of life arrive.

            By believing in Jesus and inviting him into our hearts, we can enjoy God’s permanent care in every stage and circumstance of our lives. Just as birds take care of their young and do not abandon them, He will be always with us to encourage us, strengthen us, and be our protective coat. 

Prayer: Forgive me Lord, when I doubt your care and protection, for feeling alone and helpless. Help me to remember that I am always beneath your wings. Amen.

ABRIGO

Salmo 91

El que habita al abrigo del Altísimo, morará bajo la sombra del Omnipotente

Salmos 91:1

            Es interesante observar cómo las aves cuidan de sus crías. Durante todo el proceso anterior al nacimiento, las crías crecen dentro del huevo bajo el abrigo que les provee su madre. En la seguridad del nido construido en las alturas, la madre se posa sobre sus polluelos para darles calor y extiende sus alas para brindarles abrigo. De esa manera, las avecillas disfrutan de un ambiente ideal y seguro para lograr un desarrollo pleno.

            En varios pasajes, la Biblia utiliza esa misma imagen para hablar del cuidado que  Dios nos da a quienes confiamos en Él.

            En la vida habrá ocasiones en las que experimentaremos el dolor, la soledad y la necesidad de que alguien nos comprenda y nos aliente a seguir. Un abrazo en el momento justo, una palabra de ánimo cuando las fuerzas se acaben, un consejo de un amigo que nos ayude a tomar las decisiones correctas, una felicitación cuando logremos el éxito, un consuelo cuando las cosas no funcionen como deseamos, un abrigo cuando lleguen las tormentas de la vida.

            Al creer en Jesús e invitarlo a nuestro corazón, podemos disfrutar del cuidado permanente de Dios en cada etapa y circunstancias de nuestra vida. Así como las aves cuidan de sus crías y no la abandonan, Él estará con nosotros en todo momento para alentarnos, fortalecernos y ser nuestro abrigo protector.

 

Oración: Perdóname Señor, cuando dudo de tu cuidado y protección, por sentirme solo y desamparado. Ayúdame a recordar que siempre estoy bajo tus alas. Amén.

FRIENDSHIP WITH GOD

James 2:23

Happy are the people who know the festal shout, who walk. O Lord, in the light of your countenance; they exult in your name all day long and extol your righteousness.

Psalm 89:15-16 (NRSV)

            What is preferable? Saying hello to a very important person from time to time or being their friend? Without a doubt, friendship is much more valuable than a simple handshake.

            Some people approach God with the intention of asking him to help solve problems, be cured of illnesses, receive the blessing to successfully carry out a certain project, and a thousand other examples. Those who act in this way only resort to the help of the Creator when they are overcome by circumstances and problems. But as soon as they achieve what they were looking for, they  do not invest time and effort in knowing God and learning his teachings to achieve a happy life.

            The followers of Jesus know that it is much more valuable to develop a friendship with God than to try to acquire a specific benefit for our lives through him. As a kind Father, God is happy to help those who trust in Him. But he is much happier with those who decide  to go beyond  an insistent request for favors, and take time to talk with Him in prayer, get to know Him and receive His advice for enjoying success and fulfillment.

            How right was the person who said: “Every day we must seek the Lord of blessings, instead of the blessings of God.”

 

Prayer:  Lord Jesus, you are my best Friend, the only true one. Thank you for being able to count on your friendship. Amen.

AMISTAD CON DIOS

Santiago 2:23

Bienaventurado el pueblo que sabe aclamarte; andará, oh Jehová, a la luz de tu rostro. En tu nombre se alegrará  todo el día, y en tu justicia será enaltecido.

Salmos 89:15-16

            ¿Qué es preferible? ¿Saludar de vez en cuando a una persona muy importante o ser su amigo? Sin duda la amistad es mucho más valiosa que un simple apretón de manos de vez en cuando.

            Algunas personas se acercan a Dios con la intención de pedirle que les ayude a resolver los problemas, ser curadas de las enfermedades, recibir la bendición para realizar con éxito un proyecto determinado, y mil ejemplos más. Quienes se comportan de esta manera solo recurren a la ayuda del Creador cuando se ven superados por las circunstancias y los problemas. Pero en cuanto logran lo que buscaban, no invierten tiempo ni esfuerzo en conocer a Dios y aprender sus enseñanzas para alcanzar una vida feliz.

            Los seguidores de Jesús sabemos que es mucho más valioso desarrollar una amistad con Dios antes que tratar de lograr un beneficio específico para nuestra vida. Como Padre bondadoso, Dios se alegra de ayudar a quienes confían en Él. Pero está mucho más contento con aquellos que decidan ir más allá de un insistente pedido de favores, y dedican tiempo para hablar con Él en oración, conocerlo y recibir sus consejos para disfrutar del éxito y la plenitud.

            Cuánta razón tenía quien dijo: “Cada día debemos buscar al Dios de las bendiciones, en lugar de las bendiciones de Dios.

 

Oración: Señor Jesús, tú eres mi mejor Amigo, el único verdadero. Gracias por poder contar con tu amistad. Amén.

Labor Day

FORGIVEN AND SENT

John 21:1-19

When they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?” He said to him, “Yes Lord; you know that I love you.” Jesus said to him, “Feed my lambs.”

John 21:15 (NRSV)

            This account is the longest we have of an appearance of the Lord. The main character, beside Jesus, is Simon Peter. After Peter’s triple denial, his spiritual condition, that is, his relationship with Jesus, had been left in doubt. This meeting in which Peter was rebuked and restored was necessary not only for Peter, but also for the other disciples who had heard his claims of loyalty and knew of his denial.

            Jesus gently but firmly leads him to acknowledge his mistake and be restored. The triple repetition of Jesus’ question corresponds to Peter’s triple denial. Even when Jesus questioned  his loyalty and announced that Peter would deny him three times that night, Peter rejected the prediction and stated that he was willing to die for Jesus, if necessary. Jesus will now invite Peter to reaffirm his allegiance to Him three times, in a confrontation that resulted in Peter’s restoration before Jesus, but also before his companions.

            Today Jesus is also calling us, asking us if we love him, to forgive us and send us to take care of his sheep.

 

Prayer:  Lord, allow us to love you more than ourselves, to praise you, bless you and serve you forever. Amen.

Día del Trabajo

PERDONADOS Y ENVIADOS

Juan 21:1-19

Terminado el desayuno, Jesús le preguntó a Simón Pedro: “Simón, hijo de Juan, ¿me amas más que estos?” Pedro le contestó: “Sí, Señor, tú sabes que te quiero”. Jesús le dijo: “Cuida de mis corderos.”

Juan 21:15

            Este relato es el más extenso que tenemos sobre una aparición del Señor. Su carácter principal, además de Jesús, está en Simón Pedro. Después de la triple negación de Pedro su condición espiritual, es decir, su relación con Jesús, había quedado en duda. Este encuentro en que Pedro fue reprendido y restaurado era necesario no solo para él, sino también para los demás discípulos, quienes habían oído sus afirmaciones de lealtad y sabían de su negación.

            Jesús lo conduce suavemente pero con firmeza a reconocer su error y ser restaurado. La triple repetición de la pregunta de Jesús corresponde a la triple negación de Pedro. Aun cuando Jesús cuestionó la lealtad de Pedro y anunció que le negaría tres veces aquella noche, Pedro rechazó esa predicción y afirmó que él estaba dispuesto a morir por Jesús si fuera necesario. Jesús ahora invitará a Pedro a reafirmar su lealtad a Él tres veces, en una confrontación que resultó en la restauración de Pedro ante Jesús, pero también ante sus compañeros.

            Hoy Jesús también nos está llamando a nosotros, y nos pregunta si le amamos, para perdonarnos y enviarnos a cuidar de sus ovejas.

 

Oración: Señor, permite que podamos amarte más que a nosotros mismos, para alabarte, bendecirte y servirte por siempre. Amén.
