READING THE PSALMS

Psalm 133

How very good and pleasant it is when kindred live together in unity!

Psalm 133:1 (NRSV)

This is a beautiful poem from the Bible that praises unity and brotherly love. It had a special meaning for the people who were in the diaspora, because it served as a bond between all the members, it highlights how good and profitable it is to live in unity, but it also adds how delightful and pleasant it is when we are in harmony. The psalmist shows us the magnitude of this delight through two illustrations:

-The anointing oil of unction (symbol of dignity, consecration, joy and happiness; symbol also of the Holy Spirit)

-The dew of Hermon (which speaks of refreshment, life, fruitfulness, freshness)

These examples reveal to us the abundance, prosperity, happiness, and wealth that we enjoy if we live in unity and harmony, also assuring us that God sends blessings and eternal life. God invites us to discover the beauty that envelops our lives when we live in this way, for it will positively influence our lives and our surroundings. We live in a world full of loneliness and individualism; we can become a constant invitation to harmony and unity. Let it start today and now, God is counting on you.

 

Prayer: Holy God, we recognize that many times divisions have taken over our lives: forgive us and allow us to fully enjoy all the blessings that you have promised us. Amen.

LEE LOS SALMOS

Salmo 133

Mirad cuan bueno y cuan delicioso es habitad los hermanos juntos y en armonía

Salmo 133:1

Este es un bello poema de la Biblia que elogia la unión y el amor fraternal. Tenía un sentido especial para el pueblo que se encontraba en la dispersión, pues servía de lazo entre todos los miembros, pone a relieve lo bueno y provechoso que es vivir en unidad, pero además añade lo delicioso y agradable que es cuando estamos en armonía.  El salmista nos muestra la magnitud de este deleite a través de dos ilustraciones:

- El aceite de la unción (símbolo de dignidad, consagración, gozo y alegría, símbolo también del Espíritu Santo).

- El rocío de Hermón (que habla de refrigerio, vida, fecundidad, frescura).

Estos ejemplos nos revelan la abundancia, prosperidad, felicidad y riqueza que disfrutaremos si vivimos en unidad y armonía,  asegurándonos además que allí envía Dios bendición y vida eterna. Dios nos invita a descubrir el atractivo que encierra vivir así, pues eso influenciará positivamente tanto en nuestra vida como a nuestro alrededor. Vivimos en un mundo lleno de soledad e individualismo; podemos llegar a ser una constante invitación a la armonía y a la unidad. Comience hoy y ahora, Dios cuenta contigo.

 

Oración: Dios Santo, reconocemos que muchas veces las divisiones se han apoderado de nuestras vidas; perdónanos y permite que disfrutemos a plenitud de todas las bendiciones que nos has prometido. Amén.

IPR Anniversary of San Nicolás de Bari

GOD IS HERE

2 Corinthians 12:9-10

but he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is made perfect in weakness…

If we believe in Jesus, God is with us. God’s presence and care never leave us. Where is God when we are in pain? We seem to want to know the answer to this question more than anything when we are faced with painful problems and bouts of self-doubt. Even Jesus, during his crucifixion asked: My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? But the Bible well reveals to us that nothing can separate us from God’s love, not even death. We place our trust in the fact that God doesn’t change, and his Word remains forever. Let us not be discouraged in painful circumstances, because in the end all things work for the good of those who love Him. Our lives are like a tapestry. If you look at the underside, all you will see is a jumble of knots and loose threads hanging everywhere. But when we turn it over we can appreciate the manner in which the artisan has skillfully intertwined each strand to form a beautiful creation. So is the life of a believer. We live in a limited understanding of the things of God. However, the day will come when we will understand all things.

When it seems we have no strength, that is when we are most able to completely rest in his presence and know that his power is made perfect in our weakness.

 

Prayer: Thank you Lord, for the assurance that you will never abandon us. Amen.

Aniversario IPR de San Nicolás de Bari

DIOS ESTA AQUI

2 Corintios 12:9-10

Y me dijo: Bástate mi gracia; porque ni poder se perfecciona en la debilidad…

2 Corintios 12:9

Si creemos en Jesús, Dios está con nosotros. La presencia y cuidado de Dios nunca nos dejará. ¿Dónde está Dios cuando estamos dolidos? Parece que deseamos saber la respuesta a esta pregunta más que nada cuando nos enfrentamos a problemas dolorosos y ataques de dudas. Aun Jesús, durante  su crucifixión preguntó: Dios mío, Dios mío, ¿Por qué me has abandonado? Pero la Biblia bien nos revela que nada nos puede separar del amor de Dios, ni siquiera la muerte.

Ponemos nuestra confianza en el hecho de que Dios no cambia y su Palabra permanece por siempre. No nos desanimemos con los dolorosas circunstancias, porque al final todas las cosas obran para el bien de aquellos que lo aman. Nuestras vidas son como un tapiz. Si miras el reverso todo lo que verás será un revoltijo de nudos e hilos sueltos colgando por todas partes. Pero cuando lo volteamos podemos apreciar la forma en la que el artesano ha entrelazado hábilmente cada hebra para formar una hermosa creación. Así mismo es la vida de un creyente. Vivimos en una limitada comprensión de las cosas de Dios. Sin embargo vendrá el día cuando comprendamos todas las cosas.

Cuando parezca que no tenemos fuerzas, es cuando más podemos descansar completamente en su presencia y saber que su poder se perfecciona en nuestra debilidad.

Oración: Gracias Señor, por la seguridad de que tú nunca nos abandonas. Amén.

RIVERS OF LIVING WATER

1 John 4:16

And let everyone who is thirsty come. Let anyone who wishes take the water of life as a gift.

Revelation 22:17 (NRSV)

One morning I was walking along the edge of a river that I had been visiting since my youth. Watching the current of the water, listening to its pleasant sound, it made me realize that this river had never stopped flowing, day or night, since time immemorial. Then I remembered the passage from Psalm 65:9: the river of God is full of water…

Brothers and sisters, such is the grace of God. She tirelessly waters our lives with an endless love. The river of God never dries up because He never stops loving us!

The water level of a river rises and falls depending on the absence or abundance of rainfall, but God always remains faithful, his love never changes. Therefore, whoever we are, regardless of our past, whether we are burdened or thirsty, we can drink from the river of God; that is, we can believe in his love and let ourselves be transformed by the waters. Let us remember what Jesus tells us; as he did the Samaritan woman, whoever drinks of his water will never be thirsty. So that our lives do not dry up, we must drink from the water of God’s river.

 

Prayer: Thank you, loving God, for your eternal river that never dries up. Help us to be aware of our thirst for you. May we quench that thirst with your life-giving water and may rivers of living water ever flow from within us. Amen.

RÍOS DE AGUA VIVA

1 Juan 4:16

Y el que tiene sed, venga; y el que quiera, toma del agua de la vida gratuitamente

Apocalipsis 22:17

Una mañana paseaba al borde de un río que visitaba desde mi infancia. Viendo sus aguas correr y escuchando su agradable sonido, me di cuenta de que ese río nunca había dejado de fluir, ni de día ni de noche, desde tiempos inmemorables. Entonces recordé el pasaje del Salmo 65:9: El río de Dios, lleno de aguas…

Hermanos y hermanas, así es la gracia de Dios. Ella riega incansablemente nuestras vidas con su inagotable amor. ¡El río de Dios nunca se seca, pues Él jamás dejará de amarnos!

El nivel del agua de un río aumenta o disminuye según la ausencia o abundancia de lluvias, pero Dios siempre permanecerá fiel, su amor nunca cambia. Por lo tanto, seamos quienes seamos, independientemente de nuestro pasado, estemos cargados o sedientos, podemos beber del río de Dios; es decir, creer en su amor y dejarnos transformar por sus aguas. Recordemos que Jesús nos dice, como a la samaritana, que quien beba de su agua no tendrá sed jamás. Para que nuestras vidas no se sequen, tenemos que beber del agua del río de Dios.

 

Oración: Gracias Dios amoroso, por tu río eterno que nunca se seca. Ayúdanos a ser conscientes de nuestra sed de ti. Permite que calmemos esa sed con tu agua vivificadora y que de nuestro interior broten siempre ríos de agua viva. Amén
