Celebration of the Mission Church in ParaĆso Obrero

LET US NOT JUDGE OTHERS

Luke 6:36-38

Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.

Luke 6:38 (NIV)

“With the yardstick you will one day measure yourself by,” this constitutes one of the sayings from the Bible that have passed into our present-day lore.

In any case, judging, criticizing, suspecting another, is a vice from which few escape, and from which we must be healed because we ourselves need assurance that we may be treated fairly.

We need, Lord, for your Word to be within us, in such a way, that what we speak may agree with what is in our hearts.

Do not take anything for granted. If you have harmed someone, clear it up. False assumptions may cause you to come up with false conclusions. If you always do the best you can, you can’t recriminate yourself. You are what comes out of your mouth.

Prayer: Lord my God do not allow us to assume. Let us honor our words, always do our best and not take anything personally. Amen

NO JUZGAR A OTROS.

Lucas 6:36-38

GOD PROVIDES FOR THOSE WHO TRUST IN HIM

Genesis 22:1-18

Abraham answered, “God himself will provide the lamb for the burnt offering, my son.” And the two of them went on together.

Genesis 22:8 (NIV)

The biblical story of the Father of faith and his son Isaac is very popular among Christian communities. When I was young listening to it, I was amazed that Abraham had such a strong faith that he was ready to sacrifice his own son in order to please God. I remember once asking my mom if she would do the same and she responded without hesitation: NO! That is why I grew up admiring Abraham’s faith from afar, like something supernatural, unattainable for ordinary people.

When I had my own children, I understood that the faith of that father was so great, not because he was ready to give up his son, but rather because he was sure that God would provide for him a different solution. Now I reread the passage and imagine Abraham taking slow steps preparing for his mission, looking up to search for a sign, begging God from deep within his heart, trusting that He would answer and provide for him.

And God did, as he continues to do for each one of his children.

Prayer: God, thanks be always to you, who were able to give your only begotten son for each one of us, to provide salvation for us. Amen.

DIOS PROVEE A QUIEN EN ƉL CONFƍA

REPAYING THE BAD, WITH THE GOOD

Matthew 5: 43-48

But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you…

Matthew 5:44 (NIV)

If love of neighbor is the principle of charity, then loving one’s enemies is its sublime application, because this virtue is one of the greatest victories obtained against selfishness and pride.

But we cannot be mistaken as to the sense in which Jesus expressed the word “love.” Jesus did not intend for us to have the same tenderness for an enemy as for a brother or a friend. Tenderness presupposes trust, and we cannot trust a person when we know that he or she wishes us ill.

Neither can we have for them expressions of friendship because we know that they would be capable of abusing that attitude. Between people who distrust each other there can be no impulse of sympathy as the kind that exists between those whose thoughts are in accord.

To love one’s enemies is to feel for them neither hatred nor resentment, nor desire for revenge. It means forgiving them for their ulterior motives and unconditionally the evil they do to us, not putting obstacles in the way of reconciliation. It means to wish them good instead of evil, to rejoice rather than grieve over the good that befalls them; to extend to them a charitable hand in case of need; to abstain both in words and actions from everything that could harm them; in short, to repay the bad with good, without the intention of humiliating them.

Prayer: God, forgive the bad they have done to me and that which they have wished to do to me, just as I wish you to forgive me and the faults I have committed. May your mercy extend over everyone and lead them to better feelings towards me. Amen.

RETRIBUIR EL MAL CON EL BIEN

Mateo 5: 43-48
