ARE YOU READY?

Matthew 24: 42-51

So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.

Matthew 24:44 (NIV)

When I hear the phrase, “are you ready?” my memory goes back to my school days, when our worried teachers insisted that we must prepare ourselves for the exams that were coming up. To be ready for them meant we had to be alert, expecting something new, something unknown.

This passage from Matthew invites us to be ready and vigilant for the coming of the Son of Man. He exhorts us to see each day as an opportunity to live in obedience to his Word. He calls us to reflect on our daily lives and how we are acting. Are we treating others well, loving God and our neighbor, sharing our hurts, being fair, forgiving?

This is not only about waiting, but rather about being an expression of faith and love, looking forward, remaining faithful to the task that he has given us, with the certainty that every action counts. Are we ready for that glorious encounter?

Prayer: Dear God, we give you thanks for being among us. We pray that your Holy Spirit guides us to remain faithful to your will, loving You and serving our sisters and brothers. Amen.

¿ACASO ESTAS PREPARADO?

Mateo 24: 42-51

Por tanto, también ustedes estén preparados, porque el Hijo del Hombre vendrá a la hora que menos lo esperen

Mateo 24:44

Al escuchar la frase "Estén preparados", mis recuerdos se remontan a los días de estudiante, cuando nuestros maestros preocupados, insistían en que debíamos prepararnos para los exámenes que vendrían. Estar preparados, implicaba por tanto, estar alertas, esperando lo nuevo, lo desconocido.

Este pasaje de Mateo, nos invita precisamente a estar listos y vigilantes para la llegada del Hijo del Hombre. Él nos exhorta a que veamos cada día como una oportunidad de vivir en obediencia a su palabra. Nos hace un llamado a la reflexión sobre nuestra vida cotidiana y cómo estamos actuando. ¿Estamos tratando bien a los demás, amando a Dios y al prójimo, compartiendo lo que nos duele, siendo justos, perdonando?

No se trata solo de esperar, sino de ser una expresión de fe y amor, mirando hacia adelante, permaneciendo fieles en la tarea que se nos ha encomendado, con la certeza de que cada acción cuenta. ¿Estamos listos para ese encuentro glorioso?

Oración: Amado Dios, te damos gracias por estar entre nosotros. Te pedimos que tu Santo Espíritu nos guíe para permanecer fieles a tu voluntad, amándote y sirviendo a nuestros hermanos. Amén.

Wednesday, August 27th

NOTHING IS HIDDEN FROM GOD

Psalm 139:7-12

Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence?

Psalm 139: 7 (NIV)

We cannot see God, but He can see us. The psalmist does not want to go away from the Lord. Where can I go? Even in the most distant corners of the world, I cannot escape your reach.

No veil can hide us from God, not even the densest darkness. No disguise can save a person or prevent an act from being seen in its true light by Him. The secret torments of sin are as open before God as the most blatant despicable acts.

On the other hand, believers cannot be removed from the comforting and sustaining presence of their Friend, their older brother Jesus. No external circumstance can separate us from the Lord. As long as we are on the path of duty, we can be happy in any situation through the exercise of faith, hope, and prayer. Let us persevere.

Prayer: Beloved Father, allow us to always be close to You. Guide us and show us the way to follow. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

NO HAY NADA OCULTO PARA DIOS

Salmo 139:7-12

¿A dónde podría ir lejos de tu espíritu? ¿A dónde huiría lejos de tu presencia?

Salmo 139: 7

No podemos ver a Dios, pero Él puede vernos. El salmista no desea irse del Señor. ¿Adónde puedo ir? En los rincones más distantes del mundo, no puedo escapar de tu alcance.

Ningún velo puede taparnos de Dios; ni siquiera la oscuridad más densa. Ningún disfraz puede salvar a una persona, o evitar que un hecho sea visto a la verdadera luz por Él. Los acosos secretos del pecado son tan abiertos ante Dios como las villanías más francas.

Por otro lado, el creyente no puede ser quitado de la presencia consoladora y sostenedora de su Amigo, hermano mayor Jesús. Ninguna circunstancia externa puede separarnos del Señor. Mientras estemos en la senda del deber, podemos estar feliz en cualquier situación por el ejercicio de la fe, la esperanza y la oración, perseveremos.

Oración: Padre amado, permite que siempre estemos cerca de ti, guíanos y enséñanos el camino a seguir, en el nombre de Jesús, Amén.

Tuesday, August 26th

INTERNAL CLEANSING

Matthew 23:23-26

Blind Pharisee! First clean the inside of the cup and dish, and then the outside also will be clean.

Matthew 23:26 (NIV)

We can be very precise and faithful in giving what we have, but we can also refuse to give even one minute of our time in helping others. Giving is important, but it does not exempt us from fulfilling God’s other commands.

The Pharisees strained their water so that they would not accidentally swallow a mosquito, an insect considered unclean according to the law. They were so meticulous about the details of the cleansing ceremony that they lost sight of what true purity is. On the outside, they were ceremonially clean; on the inside, their hearts were corrupt.

Jesus criticizes the Pharisees and the religious leaders for appearing holy on the outside while harboring corruption and greed on the inside. Living our Christianity only as a show for others is like washing a glass only on the outside. When we are clean on the inside, our outward cleanliness will not be feigned.

Prayer: Beloved Father, we humbly ask you to cleanse our hearts and make us shine like vessels filled with light inside and out. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

LA LIMPIEZA INTERNA

Mateo 23:23-26

Fariseo ciego, ¡limpia primero el vaso por dentro, y así quedará limpio también por fuera!

Mateo 23:26

Podemos ser muy precisos y fieles en ofrendar de lo que tenemos, pero podemos rehusarnos a dar un minuto de nuestro tiempo en ayudar a otros. Ofrendar es importante, pero no nos libra de cumplir con otras directivas de Dios.

Los fariseos colaban el agua de manera que no pudieran accidentalmente tragarse un mosquito, insecto impuro de acuerdo a la ley. Eran muy meticulosos en cuanto a los detalles del ceremonial de limpieza al grado que perdieron su perspectiva de lo que es la pureza verdadera. Por fuera, limpios en lo ceremonial; por dentro, corruptos en sus corazones.

Jesús critica a los fariseos y a los líderes religiosos por aparentar santidad en lo exterior y mantener en su interior corrupción y codicia. Vivir nuestro cristianismo sólo como un espectáculo para otros es como lavar un vaso sólo por fuera. Cuando estamos limpios por dentro, nuestra limpieza exterior no será fingida.

Oración: Padre amado, te pedimos humildemente que limpies nuestro interior, y nos hagas lucir como vasos llenos de luz por dentro y por fuera, en el nombre de Jesús, Amén.
