Taste of Christ
Matthew 5: 15
Salt is good, but if salt has lost its
flavor, how can it be restored?
Jesus didn’t have a room
in the literal sense of the word. His room was a dusty road or a lake shore, or
the side of a peaceful hillside. But Jesus knew very well what he wanted to
teach and what his student needed to learn. Jesus used motivations drawn from
life itself for his classes, and this one today is an example.
To teach his disciples
something as important as who they were or who they should be – something we
don’t always succeed in learning at school – Jesus likened his disciples to
salt.
Jesus told them that
they would be to the world what salt is to life. “You are the flavor, you are
the crux that human society needs because you serve to conserve and make others
feel thirst for justice, which is so necessary for this world may change.”
I remember an occasion
where I heard a Cuban pastor say that we are always witnesses, like it or not.
Or perhaps, our journey in this world isn’t indifferent: we help others find
Christ or we separate them from him. We enrich ourselves or impoverish
ourselves.
Prayer: Our Father, who has
called us to give flavor to the world, help us so that humanity may discover
you through our testimony. Amen.

SABOR A CRISTO
Mateo 5:13
“La sal es buena, pero si se vuelve insípida,
¿con qué puede recuperar su sabor?”
Lucas 14:34
Jesús no tuvo un aula
en el sentido literal de la palabra, su aula fue un camino polvoriento o la
orilla de un lago o la ladera de una tranquila colina. Pero Jesús sí sabía muy
bien lo que quería enseñar y lo que sus alumnos necesitaban aprender. Jesús
utilizó motivaciones para sus clases sacadas de la vida misma, y esta de hoy es
un ejemplo.
Para explicarles a sus discípulos algo tan importante como quiénes
ellos eran o quiénes ellos debían ser, algo que nosotros no siempre logramos
aprender en la escuela, Jesús asemejó a sus discípulos a la sal.
Jesús les dijo que
ellos serían para el mundo lo que la sal es para la vida. "Ustedes son
el sabor, ustedes son el punto que la sociedad humana necesita, porque sirven
para conservar y hacer que otros sientan la sed de justicia que es tan
necesaria para que este mundo sea distinto."
Recuerdo que en una ocasión escuché a un
pastor cubano decir que somos testigos siempre, querámoslo o no. O sea, nuestro
paso por la tierra no es indiferente: ayudamos a otros a encontrar a Cristo o
los separamos de El; enriquecemos o empobrecemos.
Oración: Padre nuestro, que nos has
llamado para dar sabor al mundo, ayúdanos para que la humanidad pueda
descubrirte a través de nuestro testimonio. Amén.
