Preaching from the Mountain
Matthew 5: 1-12
Happy are the
people who know the festal shout, who walk,
O
Lord, in the light of your countenance.
The majority of the
philosophical systems of antiquity agree on one objective: the search for
happiness. But it wasn’t just the philosophers who worried about the subject,
all the world’s religions have sought an answer to this profound human
question, and have tried by various means to make mankind content in this life
and assure them happiness and peace in the next.
Today’s Bible text says
that: “When Jesus saw the multitude he climbed a mountain and sat. His
disciples drew near and Jesus began to teach them…” The eight beatitudes Jesus
proclaimed comprise a solemn window to “the Sermon on the Mount.”
Christ assures us that
true happiness will be found in poverty, humility, goodness and purity of
heart, and patience in the face of suffering. This makes me think that the Lord
always goes against the grain of human worldly mentality! That’s why there are
so few who understand, accept, and follow him. But it’s this that gives
authentic peace to the heart. And it’s this which transforms the world.
Prayer: Lord, today I’m
going to sing you a new song. Bless your name, praise love and justice. Amen.

PREDICANDO DESDE LA MONTAÑA
Mateo 5,1-12
“¡Dichoso el pueblo que sabe aclamarte, y que anda,
Señor, a la luz de tu rostro!”
Salmo 89:15
La mayoría de los sistemas
filosóficos de la antigüedad coincidían en un objetivo: la búsqueda de la
felicidad. Pero no sólo los filósofos se preocupaban de estos temas. Todas las
religiones de la humanidad han buscado dar respuesta a este profundo
interrogante del ser humano y han pretendido, por diversos caminos, hacer feliz
a la humanidad en esta vida y asegurarle la felicidad y la paz en el más allá.
El texto bíblico de hoy
dice que: “Cuando Jesús vio a tanta gente, subió a una montaña y se sentó. Los
discípulos se le acercaron, y él comenzó a enseñarles…” Las ocho
bienaventuranzas proclamadas por Jesús forman una solemne apertura del “Sermón
del Monte”.
Cristo
nos asegura que la verdadera alegría la encontraremos en la pobreza, en la
humildad, en la bondad, en la pureza del corazón y en la paciencia ante el
sufrimiento. ¡Esto me hace pensar que el Señor va siempre a contrapelo de la
mentalidad mundana! Por eso hay tan pocos que lo entienden, lo aceptan y lo
siguen. Pero es esto lo que da la auténtica paz al corazón. Y lo que transforma
al mundo.
Oración: Señor, voy a cantarte hoy
una canción nueva, bendecir tu nombre, alabar el amor y la justicia, quiero. Amén.
