Serving Those Around Us in God’s Name

Matthew 10: 37-42

and whoever gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones in the name of a disciple—truly I tell you, none of these will lose their reward.

Today’s passage reminds us of the importance of placing God first in our lives and serving those around us in his name. Serving is an attitude of servitude and readiness to help assisting in the needs of those around us, with generosity, empathy, and respect. And when our lives are clothed with this attitude every day, we have saved our day. For as our Apostle said, “He who doesn’t live to serve, doesn’t serve to live.”

Today Jesus reminds us that our mission in faith is serving those who need it. Let’s not lose our way in daily sorrows and worries. Let us not turn off the desire to serve as we turn off lights and schedule blackouts in our homes. Serving is a question of attitude, disposition, and desire of the heart. Although we apparently have nothing material to give, we have a lot to contribute to the rest of humanity that walks beside us, to our fellow man.

 

Prayer: Lord, today I want to be clad with a kindly heart prepared to serve those around me. Give me love and give me humility to do this in your name and thus be able to move the mountains that keep me from doing it. We pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Servir a los demás en el nombre de Dios

Mateo 10: 37-42

Y cualquiera que le da siquiera un vaso de agua a uno deestos pequeños por ser seguidor mío, les aseguro quetendrá su premio.

El pasaje de hoy nos recuerda la importancia de poner a Dios primero en nuestras vidas y servir a los demás en sunombre. Servir es una actitud de entrega y disposición para ayudar, asistir en las necesidades de los demás, con generosidad, empatía y respeto. Y cuando nuestras vidas se visten cada mañana con esta actitud hemos salvado nuestro día. Porque como dijera nuestro Apóstol: “El que no vive para servir, no sirve para vivir.”

Hoy Jesús nos recuerda que nuestra misión en la fe es servir a quienes lo necesitan. No perdamos el rumbo en las tristezas y preocupaciones diarias. No apaguemos el deseo de servir como se apagan y programan los apagones en nuestras casas. Servir es cuestión de actitud, disposición y deseo del corazón. Aunque aparentementeno tengamos nada material para hacerlo, tenemos mucho que aportar a el resto de la humanidad que camina a nuestro lado, a nuestro prójimo.

 

Oración: Señor, hoy quiero vestirme de un corazón bondadoso dispuesto a amar y a servir a los demás. Dame amor y dame humildad para hacerlo en tu nombre y así podré mover las montañas que me lo impidan hacer lo.En el nombre de Jesús te lo pedimos. Amén.
