Sunday, October 20 WON’T GOD PROVIDE JUSTICE?

Sunday, October 20
WON’T GOD PROVIDE JUSTICE?

Won’t God provide justice to his chosen people who cry out to him day and night?
Will he be slow to help them?
Luke 18:7 (CEB)

In the Bible, there are many examples of brave women who fought against all injustice.  Although in some cases their names do not appear, the sacred history records their actions so that we will have a memory of them.  In this case, we don’t know if the widow was only a reference of Jesus to illustrate with his parable about the promised Kingdom that he would bring in.  Beyond the prayer, how she insists we are able to note in the text, I want to lift up the persistence of this woman, who would not give in to the injustice against her, who would not take vengeance for herself, but insisted in using the established channels to bring justice to her cause.  In this way, she puts forth the evidence of the structures of power and those they represent.  Such is so that the judge does not have another way to do justice. Perhaps many times we have been victims of injustice, we have been made invisible. And here is this widow telling us that we cannot get tired, that we should not let our voice stop, because together with our worthy, prayerful and faithful attitude, it makes possible restitution, respect, and justice.  At the same time, we recognize that many times we have been the culprits.  When we look at this judge, we should not make ourselves into little gods, but we should attend to the voices of the people whom we aggravate with our arrogant or powerful behavior.  If God puts us in a position or gives us a task, it is so that we will listen and practice his justice, even if this brings us inconveniences.

Prayer: Good God, allow us to always trust and hope in your justice.  Help us to value our rights with tenacity and respect.  Allow us to have attentive ears at the reclaiming of justice in our family, in our community, in our country, and in our world.  Amen.

¿Y ACASO DIOS NO HARÁ JUSTICIA?
LUCAS 18:1-8

Saturday, October 19 HOW CAN I PLEASE GOD? ROMANS 4:13, 16 – 18

Saturday, October 19
HOW CAN I PLease GOD?
Romans 4:13, 16 – 18

Abram trusted the Lord, and the Lord recognized Abram’s high moral character.
Genesis 15:6 (CEB)
The life of Abraham is worthy of the deepest attention for Christians, in view of the ways in which God is revealed, in view also of the formation of his character under the circumstances in which God tested him.

Dr. Warren W. Wiersbe wrote this on the topic:  Abraham did not have a Bible he could read; he only had the promise of God.  As a believer he was almost alone, surrounded by unbelieving pagans.  He could not look back to a long history of faith; in effect, he helped to write this history.  Nevertheless, Abraham believed in God.  The people of today have a complete Bible that they can read and study, partners in the church, and can look behind at centuries of faith written about the history of the church and in the Bible.  Nevertheless, many refuse to believe.

Abraham pleased God in the same way that we can: through faith.  He simply trusted in the Word of God, he didn’t walk by sight, but by believing that God would fulfill all that God promised.  In order to please God we have to believe him.  I am amazed at the love of God: salvation reaches everyone.  The test is the fact that Abraham has been justified by grace, much before the Law ever existed.

The poet Miguel de Unamuno must have a similar feeling when he chose to end his poem Redemption like this:
Not by your works your treasures measure
But that the soul of faith pure in payment
Lifts up mercy to its falls.

Prayer:  God of all grace, my heart yearns to please you, to please you, beloved Father.  Allow me to always keep in mind that the only thing needed for this is to believe in you.  Amen.

¿Cómo puedo complacer a Dios?
Romanos 4:13, 16 – 18

Friday, October 18 THE HIGH PRICE 2 TIMOTHY 4:1-18

Friday, October 18
THE HIGH PRICE
2 TimotHY 4:1-18

Do your best to come to me quickly.  Demas has fallen in love with the present world
 and has deserted me…
2 Timothy 4:9-10ª (CEB)
Reading this portion of the letter of Paul to Timothy moves me with deep compassion.  It is one of those texts that we can pass over inadvertently before such greatness of the ethics and theology of the rest of the letter.  Nevertheless, it is glorious to recognize how the apostle developed his work amid great trials.  The mood we notice is one of great disillusionment and helplessness in the face of abandonment, or if you will, betrayal, by some of his companions in ministry.  Nevertheless, nothing of this kept Paul back, rather it serves as an experience to share.
The seed of the gospel should be sown many times in difficult fields beneath many hostile situations, among them, our own physical or spiritual situation.  But this is when examples such as that of Paul become most pertinent: keep at the task of preaching and teaching, living the Gospel in a genuine way.   We should respond to evil with blessings, with our prayers that there will be a change in those who betray, oppress, are lazy or petty regarding the needs of the stranger.  It is not anything easy, but it is the price that we must pay as followers of Jesus.

Prayer: Thank you, God, for the teachings of Paul. Allow us to be able to draw near to his example of life with passion and compassion, without letting obstacles get in our way--in developing his ministry he humbled himself to be closer to you.  Allow us to preach your gospel in all places and all times, despite the stumbles and barriers that attempt to detain us.  Amen.

El alto precio
2 Timoteo 4:1-18

Thursday, October 17 JUSTIFIED BY HIS GRACE ROMANS 3:21-30

Thursday, October 17
JUSTIFIED BY HIS GRACE
Romans 3:21-30

..but all are treated as righteous freely by his grace because of a ransom
that was paid by Christ Jesus.

Romans 3:24 (CEB)

Paul, previously a fanatic Pharisee, persecutor of Christians, fulfiller of the law; now, by the saving grace of Jesus Christ, after a dramatic encounter with Him, has understood the truth, prophesied since the old days: We are not justified by the works of the law, but by the precious blood poured out on the cross of Calvary, through faith.  The just will live by faith, and not like the ancient scriptures: he who fulfills the law will live.

The apostle to the nations is concerned about the new community in Rome, that he has not founded, given that the Jewish Christians wanted to introduce circumcision and other laws of Moses.  Paul wrote this eternally valid letter:  We do not need the law, nor works.  God shows us how we can be justified:  only by faith in Jesus Christ, believing in his sacrifice.  In him there is no distinction due to ethnicity or social class, eliminating any pride over fulfilling the law, or empty rituals that cannot bring true redemption.  The grace and mercy of God offers us something that the law cannot give: salvation.  The law only has value in teaching us that which is evil, and our works are simply a grateful answer to God for all the love shown in his Son.  Thus, we are not only hearers, but also doers of his Word and we discard all boasting.

Prayer: Lord, teach us that only your wounds have merit and through them, by faith, we can be justified before you.  Amen

justificados por su gracia
Romanos 3:21-30

Wednesday, October 16 AND YOU—DO YOU DO THE SAME? ROMANS 2: 1- 11

Wednesday, October 16
AND YOU—DO YOU DO THE SAME?
Romans 2: 1- 11

So every single one of you who judge others is without excuse.
You condemn yourself when you judge another person …

 Romans 2:1 (CEB)

No one should try to direct others to do the right thing while they are unable to correct their own conduct.  Before trying to influence others to live a better life, we should submit ourselves to the scrutiny of the divine reflector and reform ourselves according to the will of God.  We will discover, in this precise moment, that our need to be saved through Jesus Christ is as great or greater than that of the person whom we have been judging.  Each time we point to someone with one finger, the other three fingers point back at ourselves.  We should keep in our hearts that only God can judge according to the truth and even so it is not the judgement of God which guides the people to repent, but God’s infinite mercy and good will for all of us.

Many are the blessings received as the good works that we can do by grace, yet they do not confer any special treatment nor privilege other than being responsible to obey and glorify God.

Prayer:  Good God, you are the God of all, for all and with all; you who are our God, my God, edify me in your truth, so that I can recognize the sins that have hidden behind my sins and learn, each time that I point my finger at the faults of others, that you don’t take exception to persons.  Amen.

¿Y tú… haces lo mismo?
Romanos 2: 1- 11

KNOW TO ASK
PSALM 88:1-9

May my prayer come before you;
turn your ears to my cry.  (NIV)

Psalm 88:2

The psalmist cries to God, but he does it in an authoritative arrogant way, questioning God for his sufferings.

God knows our needs perfectly, even before we ask him for them, and he also knows what is the best and most suitable. Remember that he has plans for each one of us.

Prayer is one form of conversing or talking with God in a respectful, reverent, humble, simple and sincere way. One needs to know how to ask and patiently await the response. God always answers. We always remember the wise words of Master Castellanos, “God responds at the opportune moment, with an answer so adequate that at times it surprises us, because he over-fulfills our requests.”

It’s not good or correct to try to manipulate God. Pray, wait, and accept his will. Ask, but ask with faith, hope and patience. God will give a good measure, tight, shaken, and full, as he promises in Luke 6:38.

Prayer: Good God, give me the necessary wisdom to speak with you, thank you, and ask of you with faith and living hope. Amen.

SABER PEDIR
SALMO 88:1-9

Llegue mi oración a tu presencia; Inclina tu oído a mi clamor

Salmo 88:2

SIGNS, FOR WHAT?
LuKE 11:29-32

… so the Son of Man will be a sign for this generation. (NIV)

Luke 11: 30b

We live in times in which images and sounds constitute the most important necessity for many people. There’s no doubt that the times are changing, science is advancing, and technology with it. The immediacy of communications is undeniable.

Everyone wants to see, hear, and know in such a way that the cellular phone becomes the inseparable companion, and computers have become our best friend. On the other hand, for many of who don’t like the television channels, there are some coming from abroad; so there are other alternatives, for example, to copy materials from the weekly package, etc.

“To see is to believe, Seeing is believing” as the popular refrains go. Another slogan says, “Hearing is seeing.”  And we Christian brothers and sisters, do we need signs and miracles to believe?who  Our faith is sustained by Jesus Christ; He is a living Christ, resuscitated, who conquered death. Behold the empty tomb. What better sign, what better proof?  Do you believe that?  It should suffice! Faith is the full assurance of receiving what is hoped for. Faith is to be convinced of the reality of the things we don’t see (Hebrews 11:1). Then we can understand how they were healed:  the blind, deaf, and lame, women with blood flow…it was not with therapeutic surgical procedures. It was by faith.

The true, authentic faith is lived and felt, not seen with the eyes or heard with the ears. It’s felt with the heart. As the Little Prince says, “The essential is invisible to the eyes, it is not seen well except with the heart.”

Prayer: Oh God, may Jesus Christ continue to be our only Lord and savior, the way, truth and life. Amen.

Aniversario de la IPR de Palos

Señales ¿para qué?
Lucas 11:29-32
