WON’T GOD PROVIDE
JUSTICE?
Won’t God provide justice
to his chosen people who cry out to him day and night?
Will he be slow to help
them?
Luke 18:7 (CEB)
In the Bible, there are
many examples of brave women who fought against all injustice. Although in some cases their names do not
appear, the sacred history records their actions so that we will have a memory of
them. In this case, we don’t know if the
widow was only a reference of Jesus to illustrate with his parable about the
promised Kingdom that he would bring in.
Beyond the prayer, how she insists we are able to note in the text, I
want to lift up the persistence of this woman, who would not give in to the
injustice against her, who would not take vengeance for herself, but insisted
in using the established channels to bring justice to her cause. In this way, she puts forth the evidence of
the structures of power and those they represent. Such is so that the judge does not have
another way to do justice. Perhaps many times we have been victims of
injustice, we have been made invisible. And here is this widow telling us that
we cannot get tired, that we should not let our voice stop, because together
with our worthy, prayerful and faithful attitude, it makes possible
restitution, respect, and justice. At the
same time, we recognize that many times we have been the culprits. When we look at this judge, we should not
make ourselves into little gods, but we should attend to the voices of the
people whom we aggravate with our arrogant or powerful behavior. If God puts us in a position or gives us a
task, it is so that we will listen and practice his justice, even if this
brings us inconveniences.
Prayer: Good God, allow us to
always trust and hope in your justice. Help
us to value our rights with tenacity and respect. Allow us to have attentive ears at the
reclaiming of justice in our family, in our community, in our country, and in
our world. Amen.

ACASO DIOS NO HARÁ JUSTICIA?

acaso Dios nos hará justicia a sus escogidos,
que
claman a él día y noche? ¿Se tardará en responderles?

En la
Biblia hay muchos ejemplos de mujeres valientes que lucharon en contra de toda
injusticia. Aunque en algunos casos no aparecen sus nombres, la historia
sagrada recogió sus acciones para que tengamos memoria de ellas. En este caso
no sabemos si la viuda fue solo una referencia de Jesús para ilustrar con su
parábola acerca del Reino prometido que Él inauguraba. Además de la oración,
como se empeña en hacernos notar el texto, quiero resaltar la persistencia de
esta mujer, que no se conforma con su agravio, que no toma venganza por sí
misma, que insiste en ir por los canales establecidos para lograr un desenlace
justo de su causa. De esta manera, ella pone en evidencia a las estructuras de
poder y quienes le representan. Tal es así que el juez no tiene otra salida que
hacer justicia. Quizás muchas veces hemos sido víctimas de la injusticia, hemos
sido invisibilizados. Y aquí está esta mujer viuda diciéndonos que no nos
podemos cansar, que dejemos oír nuestra voz para, junto con nuestra actitud
digna, orante y de fe, posibilitar restitución, respeto y justicia. Al mismo
tiempo reconozcamos que muchas veces hemos sido victimarios, miremos a este
juez y no nos creamos dioses, más bien atendamos las voces de las personas a
las que agraviamos con nuestro comportamiento arrogante y prepotente. Si Dios
nos puso en una posición o cargo, es para que escuchemos y practiquemos su
justicia, aunque eso nos traiga inconvenientes.
Oración: Dios
bueno, permite que siempre confiemos y esperemos en tu justicia. Ayúdanos a hacer
valer nuestros derechos con tenacidad y respeto. Permite que tengamos oídos
atentos a los reclamos de justicia en nuestra familia, en nuestra comunidad, en
nuestro país y en nuestro mundo. Amén.
