TRUSTING IN HIS PROTECTION

MARK 4:35-41

Jesus asked them, “Why are you frightened? 

Don’t you have faith yet?”

The boat carrying Jesus and his disciples was flooded and foundering because of a great storm.  Without any doubt, their lives were in danger.  Despite this, when Jesus woke up and rebuked the wind, ordering the sea to be quiet, he also has a rebuke for his companions:  Why are you frightened?  That is the same as saying: don’t you have faith yet?

It is only natural to think that anxiety and fear would be amply justified in a situation like the one narrated in this passage.  Nevertheless, Jesus censured them.  Therefore, he demands that we have the faith necessary to understand the various situations that we confront. 

He had said to his disciples the night that they took the boat: “Let’s go to the other side of the lake,” but they forgot these words, and from there came the fear.

Walking with Jesus we will never capsize; there will be storms every now and then, but we will always arrive at the “other side,” because He promises us his constant companionship and his unwavering protection.

Prayer: Jesus, increase our trust in such a way that we can repeat with the psalmist:  I will not be afraid of any danger, because you are with me.  Amen.

CONFIADOS EN SU PROTECCIÓN   

MARCOS 4:35-41

A sus discípulos les dijo: ¿Por qué tienen tanto miedo?

¿Cómo es que no tienen fe?

La barca donde iban Jesús y sus discípulos se anegaba a causa de una gran tempestad. Sin duda alguna, la vida de ellos peligraba. Y a pesar de eso, cuando Jesús es despertado y reprende el viento, ordenando al mar que se aquiete, también tiene una reprensión para sus acompañantes: “¿Por qué tienen tanto miedo?” que es igual que decir: ¿Qué sucede, es que acaso no tienen fe?

Nuestra razón afirmaría que la angustia y el sobresalto estarían más que justificadas en una situación como la que se narra en el pasaje. Sin embargo, Jesús los censuró en tal oportunidad. Por tanto, demanda de nosotros que tengamos la fe necesaria para entender las diversas situaciones que enfrentamos.

Él había dicho a sus discípulos la noche que tomaron la barca: “Vamos al otro lado del lago”, pero ellos perdieron de vista estas palabras, y de ahí al temor.

Andando con Jesús jamás naufragaremos; habrá fuertes tormentas de vez en cuando, pero siempre llegaremos al “otro lado”, porque Él nos promete su compañía constante y su protección invariable.

Oración: Jesús, aumenta nuestra confianza de manera que podamos repetir con el salmista: No temeré peligro alguno, porque tú estás conmigo. Amén.
