RESPONSIBLE HOPE

LUKE 4:18-21

“The Spirit of the Lord is on me,

 because he has anointed me

To preach good news to the poor.

He has sent me to proclaim freedom

For the prisoners, and recovery of sight for the blind,

 to release the oppressed …”

Luke 4: 18

Oh God, we live in confusing times.

We wonder how all the hungry can be fed, how the air

Can be kept pure, how peace can be achieved.

We want to be faithful to you,

We want to be instruments of your peace.

But what we do is so small, so little

In the face of such crushing problems.

Like a raindrop in the sea,

Our best fantasies of what we could do barely cause the

Surface to ripple for a fraction of a second,

in the face of the giant waves

That threaten to engulf us.

We feel defenseless and at times without hope.

Prayer: Free us, God, from hopelessness.  Grant us the passion to take the necessary risks and the confidence that comes from knowing that what matters is to be faithfully responsible to your call.  Then, even if we cannot save the world, we can conserve our integrity. Amen.

pobres, me a enviado a sanar a los quebrantados de corazón …”

Oh Dios, vivimos en tiempos de confusión.

Preguntamos cómo pueden ser alimentados

todos los hambrientos, cómo puede el aire

mantenerse puro, cómo puede lograse la paz.

Queremos ser fieles a ti,

queremos ser instrumentos de tu paz.

Pero lo que hacemos es tan pequeño, tan poco

frente a los problemas tan aplastantes.

Como una gota de lluvia en el mar,

nuestras mejores fantasías de lo que pudiéramos hacer causan si acaso que la superficie se rice por una fracción de segundo, frente a las olas gigantes

que amenazan con tragarnos.

Nos sentimos indefensos y a veces sin esperanza.

Oración: Líbranos Dios, de la desesperación. Concédenos la voluntad y fortaleza para ser y hacer lo más que podamos. Danos la pasión de tomar los riesgos necesarios y la seguridad que viene  de saber que lo que importa es que responsamos fielmente a tu llamado. Entonces, aun si no podemos salvar el mundo, podemos conservar nuestra integridad. Amén.
