BETTER TO BE ONE-EYED, ONE-ARMED, AND LAME

MARK 9:42-50

…things that cause people to stumble are bound to come,

But woe to anyone through whom they come. (NIV)

Luke 17:1

There are those who say that memory fails us with age, and perhaps they’re right. It’s true in part, but I think and believe that the years cannot make us forget what was well learned; it’s the case of what we’ve learned from God, and the example of his son Jesus Christ since we began attending church to learn from his Word and remember his teachings emanating from the Book of Life.

In the chosen quote we read that Christ spoke to us about sin, and of what we should do with the one who makes others fall into sin. It would be fitting to add here: with God’s forgiveness and with those of us who may be stumbling blocks for those who have chosen God’s ways.  

He who forgets Christ’s teachings and lives a Christian life in his own way, not as Christ commands or by working with others as he believes best, or lets himself be swayed by what others say while ignoring that Christ told us, “to love our neighbor,” will be imprisoned by sin.  

Prayer:  Lord, we pray for those who forget what they’ve learned in your Word, so that they may not be stumbling blocks on the path of those you’ve chosen. Amen.

MARCOS 9:42-50

Es imposible que no vengan tropiezos, pero ¡ay de aquel por quien vengan!

Lucas 17:1

            Hay quienes dicen que con los años nos falla la memoria, y quizás tengan razón. Claro está en parte, pero pienso y creo que los años no nos pueden hacer olvidar lo que bien se aprendió y así es el caso de los que hemos aprendido de Dios y el ejemplo de su Hijo Jesucristo, desde que empezamos a asistir a la Iglesia. Aprender de su Palabra y a recordar sus enseñanzas emanadas del Libro de la Vida.

            Leímos en la cita escogida que Cristo nos habló del pecado y de lo que debíamos hacer con el que hiciera caer en pecado a otros. Cabría aquí también añadir, con el perdón de Dios, y con los que seamos piedra de tropiezo para aquellos que han elegido los caminos de Dios.

            El que olvida las enseñanzas de Cristo y vive una vida cristiana a su manera, no como él manda u obrando con el prójimo como mejor crea o dejándose arrastrar por los que otros dicen, desoyendo que Cristo nos dijo que amemos el prójimo, será preso del pecado.

Oración: Señor, te pedimos por aquellos que olvidan lo aprendido en tu Palabra, para que no sean piedra de tropiezo en el camino de los que tú escogiste. Amén.
