DOES HUMILITY BRING HAPPINESS?

Matthew 5: 1-11

Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Matthew 5:3 (NRSV)

            A lot of time went by before I could fully understand this sentence. One day an elderly sister in Christ lent me a book titled The Attitudes for Happiness, based on the Blessed Sermon on the Mount. The author comments that the majority of his congregants complain when difficulties appear saying. “Why? Why did this happen to me?” It is really a torture because God never answers our human why. Few ask the why which opens to us the path to God’s purpose with us and enables us to search out God’s will.

            I remember the witness of a pastor who on seeing his little son run over by a car and killed instantly, said the same as Job, “The Lord gives, the Lord takes away. Blessed be the name of the Lord.” For a blessing, God granted him two sons, prominent leaders who have abundantly served  the mission of the Church.

            Humility is the opposite of arrogance. The divine Realm doesn’t belong to this realm of negative behavior. The majority of suicides, one of the greatest social problems of humanity, with its high rate of occurrence of “I can’t do it alone, I need help,” not being recognized. Let us live happily being humble in our daily lives.

 

Prayer: Our Father, help us to humble ourselves before you and our neighbors as we deal with our lives and the lives of others, in your Name. Amen.

¿LA HUMILDAD DA FELICIDAD?

Mateo 5: 1-11

Felices los pobres en espíritu, porque de ellos esel Reino de Dios

            Paso mucho tiempo para que cabalmente yo entendiera esta sentencia. Un día una anciana hermana en Cristo me prestó un libro titulado: Las actitudes para ser feliz, basado en las Bienaventuranzas del Sermón de Monte. El autor comenta que la mayoría de sus feligreses se quejan diciendo cuando aparecen las calamidades: ¿por qué…por qué… me tiene que ocurrir esto? Es realmente torturante pues Dios nunca responde a los por qué del ser humano. Pocos se preguntan para qué, lo cual nos abre el camino de proyectos del Padre con nosotros, nos capacita para buscar la Voluntad de Dios.

 

            Recuerdo el testimonio de un pastor que al ver a su pequeño hijo arrollado por un automóvil y morir instantáneamente expresó igual que Job: “Dios dio, Dios quitó. Alabado sea su nombre”. Para bendición Dios le concedió dos hijos, lííderes prominentes que han servido a la misión de la iglesia abundantemente.

 

            La humildad es lo opuesto a la arrogancia. El Reino divino no pertenece a este ámbito de comportamiento negativo. La mayoría de los suicidios, uno de los grandes problemas sociales de la humanidad, por su alta tasa de ocurrencia, muchas veces es consecuencia de no reconocer: no puedo solo/a, necesito ayuda. Vivamos felices siendo humildes en el diario vivir
