AND AFTER ALL IS DONE, THEN WHAT?

PSALM 1

For he Lord watches over the way of the righteous,

but the way of the wicked leads to destruction.  (NIV)

Psalm 1:6

Attila, King of the Huns invaded the Roman Empire and sacked Italy, but his empire died with him. Cirrus, King of Persia, made the Babylonian Empire disappear, which permitted the return of the Israelites to Jerusalem, and put an end to their captivity.  Napoleon, nearly the absolute ruler of his epoch, one day took on the plain of Waterloo, and ended up exiled to the island of Elba in the Mediterranean.  Adolph Hitler’s life ended as a “famous suicide” in 1945.

The list could be longer from Attila going forward, and from Hitler going back, but the reality is the same: They’re like chaff the wind blows away. (Psalm 1: 4).

Psalm 1 agrees with the hope of the Apostles: There are ways of life and ways of death, and there is a great difference between them. The text calls us to reflection: By which way are we traversing?  In which seats are we seated?

God gives according to our actions. But we invite you to think about two things: Don’t act expecting compensation; and God always gives us more than what we deserve and ask for.

Prayer:  Beloved Jesus, your ways are superior to ours. Help us in each moment, do not forsake us. In you we trust. Amen.

Y DESPUÉS DE TODO ¿QUÉ?

SALMO 1

Porque Jehová conoce el camino de los justos; 

Mas la senda de los malos perecerá.

Salmo 1:6

Atila, Rey de los Hunos, invadió el Imperio Romano y saqueó a Italia, pero su imperio murió con él.

Ciro, Rey de los Persas, hizo desaparecer al Imperio Babilónico, lo cual permitió el regreso del pueblo de Israel a Jerusalén y dar fin al cautiverio.

Napoleón, dueño casi absoluto del mundo de su época, un día se enfrentó a la llanura de Waterloo y terminó confinado a la Isla de Santa Elena.

Adolfo Hitler terminó como un “célebre suicida” en 1945.

La lista podía ser más larga de Atila hacia adelante y de Hitler hacia atrás, pero la realidad es la misma. Son como el tamo que arrebata el viento y la senda de los malos perecerá.

El Salmo 1 coincide con la enseñanza de los Apóstoles: Hay caminos de vida y caminos de muerte y una gran diferencia entre ellos.

El texto llama a la reflexión: ¿Por cuál camino estamos transitando? ¿En qué sillas nos estamos sentando?

Dios nos da de acuerdo con nuestras acciones. Pero te invitamos a pensar en dos cosas: no actuemos esperando la recompensa; Dios siempre nos da más de lo que merecemos y pedimos.

Oración: Jesús amado, tus caminos son superiores a los nuestros. Ayúdanos a cada momento, no nos desampares. En ti confiamos. Amén.
