LIKE TREES

PSALM 1

That person is like a tree planted by streams of water

which yields its fruit in season,

and whose leaf does not wither.

Psalm 1:3

Trees were an important part of my childhood. I remember two that grew in front of our house. My siblings and I played in them.

One day, during a hurricane, lightning struck the trees. After the storm we ran to see the damage, thinking that there would be nothing left of them. But only some branches were destroyed, and few leaves still remained, but in time they sprouted anew. The trees lived for many years after the storm because their roots were firm and deep.

We can be like trees, stalwart given a strong root system. Trees with deep roots can resist the forces of wind and storm. Christian people with deep roots in God are like trees planted together with streams of water.

Whosoever develops a strong root system through faith, prayer and Bible study can better survive the challenges that often confront us in life.

Prayer: Beloved God, teach us to be diligent and produce fruit each day. Help us to develop deep roots. Amen.

COMO ÁRBOLES

SALMO 1

Será como árbol plantado junto a corrientes de aguas,

que da fruto en su tiempo y su hoja no cae.

Salmo 1:3

Los árboles fueron una parte importante de mi niñez. Recuerdo dos que crecieron frente a nuestra casa. Mis hermanos y yo jugábamos en ellos.

Un día durante un huracán, un relámpago cayó sobre los arboles. Corrimos a ver los daños después de la tormenta, pensando que no quedaba nada de ellos. Solo se destruyeron algunas ramas y quedaron pocas hojas, pero con el tiempo brotaron nuevas. Los árboles vivieron por muchos años después de la tormenta porque sus raíces eran  firmes y profundas.

Podemos ser como esos arbolees, firmes debido a un sistema fuerte de raíces. Los árboles con raíces profundas pueden resistir las fuerzas del viento y de las tormentas. Las personas cristianas con raíces profundas en Dios son como árboles plantados junto a corrientes de aguas.

Quienes desarrollan un sistema de raíces fuertes a través  de la fe, la oración y el estudio de la Biblia pueden sobrevivir mejor los retos que a menudo enfrentamos en la vida.

Oración: Amado Dios, enséñanos a ser diligentes y a dar fruto cada día. Ayúdanos a desarrollar raíces profundas. Amén.
