WE ARE DISCIPLES

Luke 14: 25-33

So therefore, none of you can become my disciple if you do not give up all your possessions.

Luke 14: 33 (NRSV)

I admire those people who renounce all their plans, their dreams and opportunities of enjoying a pleasurable life, their family, even their professions which were obtained through great days of sacrifice and sleepless nights and dedication to their work. All this renunciation is done with the goal of dedicating themselves to being disciples of the Lord.

Others of us hold on to the desire or the intention, but upon calculating the cost to pay we don’t “pay the bill.” Following Christ is a difficult mission which involves letting go of everything that binds or hinders us.

Discipleship implies one’s willingness to place the demands of Jesus above those of self or family.

I firmly blieve that following in the journey with Jesus gives us the possibility not renouncing being his disciples and working together in the proclamation of the Gospel and this fulfilling the Great Commission.

 

Prayer: Lord, today we pray for all those who follow in your footsteps and for those who have dedicated their lives to you. Amen.

SOMOS DISCÍPULOS

Lucas 14: 25-33

Así, pues, cualquiera de vosotros que no renuncia a todas las cosas que posee, no puede ser mi discípulo.

Lucas 14: 33

Admiro a las personas que renuncian a todos sus planes, a todos sus sueños y oportunidades de disfrutar de una vida placentera, a su familia, incluso renuncian a sus profesiones que han obtenido mediante largas jornadas de sacrificios y desvelos en estudios y dedicación a su labor; toda esa renuncia con el objetivo de dedicarse a ser discípulos del Señor.

Otros nos quedamos con el deseo o la intención, pero al calcular el precio a pagar no nos da la cuenta. Seguir a Cristo es una misión difícil, que conlleva desprenderse de todo lo que nos ata o impide.

El discipulado significa la disposición de una persona para colocar las demandas de Jesús por encima de las de ella o de su familia.

Creo firmemente en que seguir en el camino junto a Jesús nos da la posibilidad de no renunciar a ser sus discípulos, de participar juntos en la proclamación del Evangelio y cumplir así la Gran Comisión.

 

Oración: Señor, rogamos por todas las personas que hoy siguen tus pasos, y también por los que han entregado sus vidas dedicadas a ti. Amén.
