WHOM DO WE INVITE?

Luke 14: 12-14

But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, and the blind.

Luke 14: 13 (NRSV)

Jesus had already warned the guests about how to choose their place at the “wedding feast;” now he addresses the one who invited him and also gives him a clear warning about the deeds that receive their reward in this life and the choice of how to act to better receive God’s rewards. The invitation to the marginalized, the excluded, and the despised will be repaid in the resurrection of the just.

The fact of preferring to do good in exchange for receiving something tangible and earthly, a recognition for what we do or a compensation, does not give us greater merits before God; neither does doing so in premeditation to seek that heavenly reward.

We should prefer to act and serve without asking or expecting anything in return and leave the whole issue of recognition and rewards to God.

Today there are many people around us who have no way to support themselves and are grateful for our help.

 

Prayer: Lord, move us to mercy before so many vulnerable people who we can help. Amen.

¿A QUIEN INVITAMOS?

Luke 14: 12-14

Pero cuando hagas banquete, llama a los pobres, a los mancos, a los cojos y a los ciegos.

Luke 14: 11

Jesús ya habia advertido a los invitados acerca de la manera de escoger su lugar en la “fiesta de bodas”; ahora se dirige a quién lo invitó y también le hace una advertencia clara sobre los hechos que reciben su recompensa en esta vida y la opción de actuar más bien para recibir las recompensas de Dios. La invitación a los marginados, excluidos y despreciados será recompensada en la resurrección de los justos.

El hecho de preferir hacer el bien a cambio de recibir algo tangible y terrenal, un reconocimiento por lo que hacemos o una compensación, no nos da mayores méritos ante Dios; como tampoco hacerlo premeditadamente para buscar esa recompensa celestial.

Debemos preferir actuar y servir sin pedir o esperar nada a cambio y dejar todo el tema de reconocimientos y recompensas a Dios.

Hoy en dia existen muchas personas a nuestro alrededor que no tienen cómo sustentarse y agradecer an nuestra ayuda.

 

Oración: Señor, muévenos a misericordia ante tantas personas vulnerables que podemos ayudar. Amén.
