THE LAW OR LOVE?

Luke 14: 1-6

And they could not reply to this.

We do not always do what our heart invites us to; sometimes we do not do what reason says either. But we almost always condition our acts to a dictated standard of conduct by which we are judged.

Jesus breaks with these paralyzing paradigms and assumes his responsibility (v. 4b) knowing that, above all that is demanded by those who hold power and “watch over” (although they do not always respect), is the fulfillment of his mission, which he defends to the point of death.

As followers of Jesus we must question our own actions in the face of others’ needs, injustices, or the lack of concrete answers from those who should create solutions. We must act with humility and respect, although with strength, knowing that service and dedication to others are our modest contribution which supports what the Gospel tells us: Love is the Supreme Law of God’s Reign.

 

Prayer: Lord, forgive us of we do not love others the way you love us. Amen.

¿LA LEY O EL AMOR?

Luke 14: 1-6

Y no le podían responder a estas cosas.

Lucas 14: 6

No siempre hacemos lo que nuestro corazón nos invita, a veces tampoco hacemos lo que la razón dice; pero casi siempre ese hacer lo condicionamos a lo que nos dicta una norma de conducta por la que nos juzgan.

Jesús rompe con esos paradigmas paralizantes y asume su responsabilidad (v. 4b) sabiendo que, por encima de todo cuanto se exige por los que sustentan el poder y “velan” (aunque no siempre respetan), está el cumplimiento de su misión; la que defiende hasta la muerte.

Como seguidores de Jesús, debemos cuestionar nuestro actuar ante las necesidades de otros, las injusticias, o la falta de respuestas concretas de quienes deben generar soluciones; con humildad y respeto, pero con valor; siendo el servicio y la entrega al prójimo nuestros modestos aportes que sustenten lo que nos dicta el Evangelio: El Amor es la Ley Suprema del Reino de Dios.

 

Oración: Señor, perdona si no amamos a otros como tú nos amas. Amén.
