DON’T WEEP

LUKE 7:11-17

When the Lord saw her, he had compassion for her and said to her,

Do not weep.

Luke 7:13 (NRSV)

How can you say to someone who is in pain, don’t cry? How to say to that mother who lost a son in an accident not to shed tears of anguish for the absent life? How can we say to those who feel betrayed, hurt, insulted by different causes to choke off the sorrows that flow like seas from their eyes and their soul? How can we say to whoever reads these lines that they shouldn’t cry when sadness fills their hearts?

Nevertheless, seeing the pain of the woman, Jesus approaches her with compassion and begs her, don’t weep!  Her pain was his pain. Everyone’s pain becomes Jesus’ pain. Therefore, he can ask for everything we cannot and should not. He can ask that we stop crying because He makes our tears, our anxieties, our afflictions, our pain, our weakness, our disillusion his own.

Don’t cry, Jesus asks us. Not because a miracle is always possible, not because our loved ones are going to return to life or because their illness will disappear, or because the struggles are going to end or because the tensions will be resolved. Don’t cry! Because on your path there is one who walks with you, who understands you, who loves you, who embraces you, and who caresses your soul. Because He, Jesus, understands your need, sees your tears, feels your pain and comes to you and tells you, Don’t weep!

Prayer: Good Jesus, give me the strength amid others’ sufferings to help them in their pain. Give me the wisdom to make them see that they are not alone in their pain, but that you are at their side. Amen.

Jesús le dijo: No llores

Lucas 7:13

¿Cómo decirle a alguien que sufre que no llore? ¿Cómo decirle a esa madre que perdió un hijo en un accidente que no derrame sus lágrimas de dolor por la vida ausente? ¿Cómo pedirle a quien se siente traicionado, lastimado, insultado por diversas causas, que ahogue las penas que le brotan a mares por los ojos y por el alma? ¿Cómo decirle a quien está leyendo esas líneas que no llore cuando la tristeza se instala en su corazón?

Sin embargo, Jesús, al ver el dolor de la mujer, se acerca con compasión, y le ruega: ¡No llores! El dolor de la mujer es el dolor de Jesús. El dolor de cada persona se convierte en el dolor de Jesús. Por eso, Él puede pedir aquello que nosotros no podemos ni debemos. Él puede pedir que dejemos de llorar, porque Él hace suyas nuestras lágrimas, nuestras angustias, nuestras aflicciones, nuestro dolor, nuestra impotencia, nuestra desilusión.

¡No llores! Nos pide Jesús. No porque el milagro sea siempre posible, no porque nuestros seres queridos vuelvan a vivir o porque la enfermedad va a desaparecer, o porque las luchas se van a terminar o porque las tensiones se van a resolver. ¡No llores! Porque en tu caminar hay uno que te acompaña, que te entiende, que te ama, que te abraza y que te acaricia el alma. Porque Él, Jesús, conoce tu necesidad, ve tus lágrimas, siente tu dolor y viene a ti y te dice: ¡No llores!

Oración: Jesús bueno, dame valor, en medio del sufrimiento de otros, para ayudarles en su pena. Dame la sabiduría para hacerles ver que no están solos en su pena, que tú estás a su lado. Amén.
