LIVING WATER

John 5:1-6

Because an angel descended from time to time into the pond and stirred up the water. (NIV)

John 5:4

We realize the importance of water for health when we reflect upon the biblical text. Where it abounds we do not value it, we waste it. It is not like that in the desert, there even the plants treasure it, protecting it with their thorns. There the water has an almost mystical aura, calling forth deceptive mirages of dancing lagoons and streams. In that arid and burning place, water is worth gold.

John the Baptist, who prepared the way for Jesus’ ministry, baptized him with water from the Jordan River, hearing the voice of God, “This is my beloved son, in whom I am well pleased.”

The presence of water is a sign of purity, cleansing, conversion and healing in the miracles of Jesus during his ministry.

This symbol is used when he meets a Samaritan woman at Jacob’s well. Jesus said to her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is that says to you, ‘give me a drink,’ you would ask him and he would give you living water.”

That living water that Jesus gives is still available to us.

Let’s ask Jesus for a sip of that water.

Prayer: Lord, I want to drink your living water to achieve eternal life. Amen.

AGUA VIVA.

Juan 5:1-6
