Anniversary of the “Edward A. Odell” (Camajuaní ) Church

AN OFFERING OF THE HEART

John 12:1-11

Then Mary took about a pint of pure nard, an expensive perfume; she poured it on Jesus’ feet and wiped his feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume.

John 12:3 (NIV)

Some theologians claim that Mary, in this service to Jesus, foretells the way in which Jesus will serve his disciples at the Last Supper. Mary didn’t know how to thank Jesus for what he had done for the life of her brother Lazarus. So, she tries to give Jesus something of great value. Mary did not think about the cost of the perfume, and it is for that reason that Jesus appreciates this marvelous gesture.

Jesus has done marvelous things for our lives. Day after day he works in them and sometimes because this is something so commonplace, we do not give it the value it deserves. What can we offer Jesus today? Our money? Our time? Our help to people who are sick or who feel abandoned? What will be the perfume with which we will anoint the feet of our Savior?

We need to be grateful people. This translates into acts of love with our neighbor in a conscious and responsible way. It it time to make visible the kingdom of God in our midst here and now. God grant that we may persevere in this attempt and be a reflection of the divinity of Jesus in our humanity.

 

Prayer: God of life, we are grateful for all the good that you do in our lives every day. May we also have the opportunity to show our gratitude to you as joyfully as Mary did. In Jesus’ name we ask you. Amen.

UNA OFRENDA DE CORAZÓN

Entonces María, tomando una libra de perfume de nardo puro, muy caro, ungió los pies de Jesús y los secó con sus cabellos. Y la casa se llenó del olor del perfume

Algunos estudiosos afirman que Maria al servicio de Jesús, predice la manera en la que Jesús servirá a sus discipulos en las Última Cena. Mar ia no hallaba cómo agradecer a Jesús lo que habia hecho por la vida de su hermano Lázaro. Por lo tanto trata de darle a Jesús también algo de mucho valor. Maria no miró el costo de su perfume, y es por ello que Jesús aprecia ese maravilloso gesto.

Jesús ha hecho cosas maravillosas por nuestras vidas. Dia tras dia va obrando en ellas y en ocasiones por ser algo tan cotidiano no le damos el valor que merece. ¿Qué le podemos ofrecer a Jesús hoy? ¿Nuestro dinero? ¿nuestro tiempo? ¿La ayuda a las personas que están enfermas o que se encuentran abandonadas? ¿Cuál será el perfume con el que vamos a ungir los pies de nuestro Salvador?

Es necesario que seamos personas agradecidas. Y que esto se traduzca en actos de amor con nuestro prójimo de manera consciente y responsable. Es hora de hacer visible el reinado de Dios en medio nuestro aqui y ahora. Dios permita que podamos perseverar en el intento y seamos reflejo de la divinidad de Jesús en nuestra humanidad.

 

Oración: Dios de la vida, agradecemos tolo lo bueno que haces en nuestras vidas diariamente. Permite que tengamos también la oportunidad de mostrar nuestro agradecimiento a ti con la alegria con que lo hizo Maria. En el nombre de Jesús te lo pedimos. Amén.
