WHEN WE DRIFT AWAY

2 CHRONICLES 20:20
“Remember, O Lord, how I have walked before you faithfully and with wholehearted devotion and have done what is good in your eyes.”

2 Kings 20:3

Imagine yourself relaxing in a boat at a short distance from the beach, with your eyes closed, and allowing the wind to drift us away…and then you open your eyes! Suddenly the shore has become alarmingly distant.  This is how we tend to distance ourselves spiritually.  It is something that happens in a subtle way, but it is hair-raising when we suddenly realize that we have grown distant from God.

There are many attitudes that can set us adrift:  believing that we need something more than God to be happy; putting other interests above our loyalty to God; thinking that God should be meeting our expectations; resisting his reproofs.  If you are starting to drift away, remember to anchor yourself to God. He alone is our rock of salvation, our ready help in times of tribulation.

Prayer: Lord, help us to remain alert and close to you at all times, loyal and firm in the faith. Help us so that we are not distracted by superficialities that impede acknowledging you as our firm rock, upon which we need to build our lives. Amen.

CUANDO NOS ALEJAMOS

“Yo te suplico, Señor, que te acuerdes de cómo te he servido fiel y sinceramente, haciendo lo que te agrada.”

2 Reyes 20:3

Imagínate relajado sobre un bote a poca distancia de la playa, con los ojos cerrados, dejándonos llevar por el viento. ¡hasta que abres los ojos! De repente, la orilla está  alarmantemente lejos. Así es como tendemos a alejarnos espiritualmente. Es algo que sucede de manera sutil, pero es espeluznante cuando de repente nos damos cuenta cuánto nos hemos alejado de Dios. Hay muchas actitudes que nos pueden poner a la deriva: creer que necesitamos algo más que a Dios para ser felices; colocar otros intereses por encima de nuestra lealtad a Dios; pensar que Dios debe estar a la altura de nuestras expectativas; resistir sus reprobaciones. Si estás comenzando a alejarte, acuérdate de mantenerte anclado a Dios. Sólo él es nuestra roca de salvación, nuestro pronto auxilio en las tribulaciones.

Oración: Señor, permítenos estar alertas y cercanos a ti en todo momento, fieles y firmes en la fe. Ayúdanos para que no nos distraigamos con superficialidades que impiden reconocerte como nuestra roca firme, sobre la cual debemos edificar nuestras vidas. Amén
