WE ARE a multitude

2 kings 6:8-23

“Don’t be afraid,” the prophet answered. “Those who are with us are more than those who are with them.”

2 Kings 6:16

This exemplary passage has many teachings but today I would like to point out the capacity that the prophet Elisha had to discover the greatest strength in God and not in human armies.  In the face of imminent threat from the Syrians, the prophet invokes God’s protection and He responds with a surprising cavalry of fire that imposes his power in that difficult moment.

It is often difficult for us to trust in God when circumstances do not seem to allow any opportunity to go on. And it also often occurs to us, as it did to Elisha, to only take into account our own courage and also that of the enemies that surround us, and this limited perspective is reduced to our own force and the difficulties that arise.  However, Elisha’s words are more valid today than ever: we are not alone.

The fear that paralyzes us and keeps us from continuing to uphold the responsibilities that God has given us should be rejected, because it does nothing more than limit and crush and repress us. God wants for us to move forward in the face of life’s confrontations, with trust and faith in Him.  With God, even though we are seemingly alone, we are a multitude.

 

Prayer: God of goodness, grant that today I may trust in you in such a way that the challenges I face will not matter if you are by my side.  Help me to trust in the multitude of angels that camp at my side. Be with me, Lord; I am in your hands. Amen.

2 Reyes 6:8-23

“Eliseo respondió: No tengas miedo, porque más son los que están con nosotros que los que están con ellos”

2 Reyes 6: 16

Este pasaje ejemplar tiene muchas enseñanzas pero hoy quisiera detenerme a resaltar la capacidad que tuvo el profeta Eliseo de descubrir la más grande fortaleza en Dios y no en los ejércitos humanos. Ante la amenaza inminente de los sirios, el profeta invoca la protección de Dios y éste le responde con una sorprendente caballería de fuego que impone su poder en aquel momento difícil.

Muchas veces nos resulta difícil confiar en Dios cuando las circunstancias aparentemente no dejan oportunidades para continuar. Y muchas veces también nos toca, como a Eliseo, asumir nuestros propios ánimos y también los de los “Giezis” que nos rodean, cuya perspectiva limitada solo se reduce a las fuerzas propias y a las dificultades que se presentan. Sin embargo las palabras de Eliseo hoy son más válidas que nunca, nosotros no estamos solos.

El miedo que nos paraliza a continuar con las responsabilidades que Dios nos ha dado, debe ser desechado, pues no hace más que limitarnos, aplastarnos, anularnos. Dios quiere que avancemos ante las confrontaciones de la vida con seguridad y fe en él. Con Dios, aunque aparentemente estemos solos, somos multitud.

Oración: Dios bueno, permite que hoy esté yo confiado en ti de tal manera que no importen los retos que se avecinan si tú estás a mi lado. Ayúdame a confiar en la multitud de ángeles que acampan a mi lado. Acompáñame Señor, estoy en tus manos. Amén.
