WHAT HUMILITY REAPS

Philippians 2:1-3

Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humilty. regard others as better than yourselves.

            2020 brought the sad news of the loss of 97 year old Rosita Fornés, the most emblematic, iconic, versatile and integral person in our cultural history. The gigantic coverage in all the media was well deserved.  What was her secret? In all the interviews conducted, two aspects of her personality stood out:  humility and not judging others.  I remember an invitation from the Seventh Day Adventists extended to me in the 90s, to enjoy a Christmas concert at the Viper. To my amazement she was in the front row with her family. At the end the whole congregation came to greet her with great affection.

            This attitude toward others and toward oneself is what, according to the Bible, allows us to approach the Triune God in all His magnitude. Every time we carry out a project or action for the benefit of others the Lord is born anew, paraphrasing the hymn. However, we already know some of the ingredients that give the required flavor. Let us put into practice all the reserves of humility and towards our neighbor.

LO QUE COSECHA LA HUMILDAD

Filipenses 2:1-3

No hagan nada por rivalidad o por orgullo, sino con humildad, y que cada uno considere a los demás como mejores que el mismo

            El 2020 trajo la triste noticia de la pérdida física a los 97 años de la figura cubana mas emblemática, icónica, versátil e integral en la historia de nuestra cultura: Rosita Fornés. Se ha merecido con creces la cobertura gigantesca en todos los medios. ¿Cual fue su secreto? En todas las entrevistas que le realizaron resaltaban dos aspectos claves de su personalidad: la humildad y no juzgar a los demás.

            Recuerdo una invitación que la Iglesia Adventista del Septimo Dia me hizo en los 90´s para disfrutar de un Concierto de Navidad en la Víbora, y para mi asombro en primera fila estaba ella con su familia. Al final toda la congregación fue a saludarla con gran cariño.

            Esa actitud hacia los demás y consigo mismo es la que, acorde con la Biblia, nos permite acercarnos al Dios Trino en toda su magnitud. Cada vez que llevamos a cabo un proyecto o acción para beneficio a otros, nace el Señor, parafraseando al himno. Sin embargo, ya conocemos algunos ingredientes que le dan el sabor requerido. Pongamos en práctica todas las reservas de humildad y de compromiso con Dios hacia el prójimo.

 

Oración: Padre Nuestro llama siempre nuestra atención en el servirte con toda humildad y respeto hacia los demás. En Su Nombre, Amén.
