LAW AND ORDER

Galatians 5: 19-26

By contrast, the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against such things.

            A few days ago, I contacted a brother with a leadership position in a program of prison chaplaincy and inquired about the rate of Christian participation. It is tiny, only one or two denominations. Law and Order is a much used term since the mid-twentieth century. What would happen to crime if we behaved according to the standard to which these verses call us?

            I have known people convicted of horrible crimes, and when they surrender body and soul to Jesus Christ, they are reborn and their lives are transformed. I met Dr. Parson personally, serving as his interpreter. He was a North American pilot in the Vietnam War, but once the conflict was ended, he fell into depression over all the bombs dropped and the machine gunning of innocent victims. On surrendering to Christ, he studied medicine, graduating with honors, and returned to save lives, inventing orthopedic equipment never before seen.

 

Prayer: Our Father, thank you for bequeathing to us the rules of our behavior towards others and towards ourselves for which there is no human law. We pray in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

LA LEY Y EL ORDEN

Galatas 5: 19-26

En cambio, lo que el Espíritu produce es amor, alegría, paz, paciencia, amabilidad, bondad, fidelidad, humildad, y dominio propio. Contra tales cosas no hay ley

Gálatas: 22-23

            Hace unos días me puse en contacto con un hermano con liderazgo en el programa de capellanía carcelaria y le pregunté por el índice de participación de cristianos, y es ínfima, de una o dos denominaciones. La Ley y el Orden es un término muy usado desde mediados del siglo XX. Si seguimos la Ley de Dios ¿que pasaría con el crimen al comportarnos de acuerdo a la máxima a la que nos llama el verso escogido?

            He conocido convictos de crímenes horribles y cuando se entregan en cuerpo y alma a Jesucristo nacen de nuevo y sus vidas son transformadas. Conocí personalmente, sirviéndole de intérprete, al Dr. Parson. Él fue un piloto norteamericano en la Guerra de Vietnam, pero una vez terminado el conflicto, cayó en  depresión por tantas bombas arrojadas y ametrallamientos a seres humanos inocentes. Al entregarse a Cristo, estudió Medicina con honores y regresó a salvar vidas, inventando equipos en Ortopedia jamás vistos.

 

Oración: Padre Nuestro, gracias por dejarnos las reglas de nuestro comportamiento hacia los demás y hacia nosotros mismos con las cuales no existe ley humana. En el nombre de Jesucristo te lo imploramos. Amén.
