POSITIVE PAPAL VISITS TO CUBA

Matthew16: 13-20

“But who do you say that I am?” Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”

            With the visit of John Paul II, for the first time in decades, the Word was proclaimed by all modes of diffusion. The sentence repeated in all four homilies was “Do not fear! Open your hearts to Christ!” I wept with a joy that marked me for life and reinforced for me the concept that not excluding anyone from this call is key.

            The second Pope to visit us, Benedict XVI, referring to John Paul II’s words said, “open your heart to Christ, for he is the way, the truth and the life. And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” What Christian can argue with that?

            Pope Francis, in summation of his mission in the pastoral accompaniment of his visit, pronounced the following well known maxim, “Who does not live to serve does not serve to live.” Thus he reinforced what Jesus instructed us to do, to come to serve, not to be served, (MARK 10:45).

 

Prayer: Our Father, help us to affirm you with our hearts as temples always open to Christ and thus to serve others. In the name that is above all names, Jesus Christ, Amen.

LAS POSITIVAS VISITAS DE LOS PAPAS A CUBA

-Y uds, ¿quien dicen que soy?-les preguntó. Simón Pedro le respondió: Tú eres el Cristo. El Hijo del Dios viviente

            Con la visita de Juan Pablo II por primera vez en décadas se proclamaba la Palabra por todos los medios de difusión. La sentencia repetida en las cuatro homilías fue: “¡No teman! ¡Abran su corazón a Cristo!” Lloré con un gozo que me marcó por vida, y me reforzó el concepto de que no excluir a nadie en ese llamado es clave.

            El segundo Papa en visitarnos, Benedicto XVI, al recordar las palabras de Juan Pablo II, dijo: “abran su corazón a cristo, porque Él es el camino, la verdad y la vida. Y conoceréis la verdad, y la verdad os hará libres”. ¿Que cristiano se atreve a discutir eso?

            El Papa Francisco, como resumen de su misionar en todo el acompañamiento pastoral de su visita, pronunció la siguiente máxima conocida: “el que no vive para servir, no sirve para vivir”. Con ello reforzaba lo que Jesús instruyó hacer, de venir a servir y no para ser servido (Marcos 10:45).

 

Oración: Padre Nuestro, ayúdanos a proclamarte con nuestros corazones como templos siempre abiertos a Cristo y así servir a los demás. En el nombre sobre todo nombre, Cristo Jesús. Amén.
