THREE DANGERS THAT CONFRONT HUMANKIND

Micah 6: 6-16

 He has told you, O mortal what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness and to walk humbly with your God?

Micah 6: 8(NRSV)

            We do not mean the three dangers that the famous scientist Stephen Hawking predicted some time before he died: climate change, artificial intelligence, and the existence of extra-terrestrial beings capable of exterminating or enslaving us. We mean the three dangers that have always existed in humanity: lack of justice, kindness and humility.

            In reality, climate change is already having disastrous consequences that are on the rise; Japan’s latest quantum computer is a champion in operations of two billion per second. If these things do not properly integrate into the functioning of societies, we will not need aliens to enslave us. The believer must always be serving and loving his neighbor with the two elements that support the triad of behavior given by Micah, and that I once heard a pastor of our church call “the shield of forgiveness and the sword of love.” The challenges that the human race faces will have to be the environment, economy, health, political and social crises which are immense. However, let us remember the promise: “... in the world you will have affliction, but trust me I have overcome the world.”

 

Prayer: Our Father, help us so that your promises may be supported by our actions in justice, kindness, and humility toward others because that is what you command us to do. In the name of Jesus Christ we ask you. Amen.

TRES PELIGROS QUE LA HUMANIDAD ENFRENTA

Miqueas 6: 6-16

Oh hombre, El te ha declarado lo que es bueno. ¿Que quiere de ti el Senor? Solamente hacer justicia, amar misericordia y caminar humildemente con tu Dios

Miqueas 6: 8

            No nos referimos a los tres peligros que el famoso científico Stephen Hawking predijo cierto tiempo antes de morir: el cambio climático, la inteligencia artificial, y la existencia de seres extra-terrestres capaces de exterminarnos o esclavizarnos, sino a tres peligros que siempre han existido en la humanidad: falta de justicia, bondad y humildad.

            En realidad, el cambio climático ya está teniendo desastrosas consecuencias que van en incremento; la ultima computadora cuántica japonesa es campeona en operaciones de dos billones por segundo. Si estas cosas no se integran debidamente en el funcionamiento de las sociedades, no hará falta esperar extraterrestres que nos esclavicen. El creyente debe estar siempre sirviendo y amando al prójimo con los dos elementos que apoyan la triada de comportamiento dada por Miqueas, y que una vez oí decir a un pastor de nuestra iglesia: el escudo del perdón y la espada del amor. Los desafíos que la raza humana enfrenta y tendrá que enfrentar en términos de medio ambiente, economía, crisis sanitaria, políticos y sociales son inmensos. Sin embargo, recordemos la promesa: “…en el mundo tendréis aflicción, mas confiad yo he vencido al mundo”.

 

Oración: Padre Nuestro, ayúdanos para que tus promesas estén sustentadas en nuestro accionar en justicia, bondad y humildad hacia al prójimo pues es lo que nos mandas a hacer. En el nombre de Jesucristo te lo pedimos. Amén.
