THE BUTS

John 20:19-29

So the other disciples told him, “We have seen the Lord!” But he said to them “Unless I see the nail marks in his hands and put my finger where the bails were, and put my hand into his side. I will not believe.” (NIV)

            Have we thought about the “buts” at times? Buts exist because of fear, because of comfort,  insecurity, interests, for what others may think of who we are. 

            All these buts have different origins, but one consequence: they cause us harm.  

            The buts limit us from reaching well-being, peace. Occasionally, when we get puffed up, depart from God’s way, they impede us from discovering our strengths, paralyze us and keep us from going forward. Because of many of these buts we are kept from appreciating God’s signs, and without them, even when God blows with his breath of life upon us, gifting us his Spirit, they make it impossible for us to receive it.

            It happened to Thomas; he refused to believe the signs that Jesus had given to the other disciples. He had another chance however; Jesus appeared to him, and Thomas did not object. Let us act like him, put aside our buts so that the Spirit of God may abound in our lives.     

 

Prayer: Beloved Father, may we leave behind our buts and be able to experience the presence of your Spirit. Amen.

LOS PEROS

Juan 20:19-29

…Él les dijo: Si no veo en sus manos la señal de los clavos y meto mi dedo en el lugar de los clavos, y meto mi mano en su costado, no creeré

            ¿Hemos pensado alguna vez en los ‘peros’?  Existen peros por miedo, por comodidad, por inseguridad, por interés, por lo que piensen los demá s de quienes somos.

            Todos estos peros tienen orígenes diferentes pero una consecuencia: nos provocan daños.

            Los peros nos limitan para alcanzar el bienestar, la paz; en ocasiones nos envanecen, nos alejan del camino de Dios, nos impiden descubrir nuestras fortalezas, nos paralizan y no nos permiten avanzar. Por muchos de estos peros no logramos apreciar las señales de Dios y sin éstas, aun cuando Dios sople con su aliento de vida sobre nosotros regalándonos su Espíritu, se hace imposible que podamos recibirlo.

            A Tomás le sucedió, se negó a creer en las señales que Jesús les había dado a los otros discípulos. Sin embargo, tuvo otra oportunidad, Jesús se le presentó y Tomás no puso reparos. Actuemos como él, apartemos nuestros peros para que el Espíritu de Dios sobreabunde en nuestras vidas.

 

Oración: Padre amado permite que dejemos atrás nuestros peros y podamos experimentar la presencia de tu Espíritu. Amén.
