DON’T BE AFRAID

Joshua 10:1-14

Jehovah said to Joshua, “Do not be afraid of them…”  (NIV)

            In many places of the world, one lives in constant fear: fear of assault in the street, fear of losing one’s job, fear of getting sick. Those are fears that could cause us harm or prejudice. 

            There are also fears about what will happen in the future: fear of some task or challenge at home, at work, at school, at church. Fear of the future with its decisions, commitments, sacrifices and conflicts. 

            How many times in our reading of the Bible have we found the words: “Do not fear?” Beginning with Abraham and continuing to Moses, Joshua, David, the prophets, and later in the New Testament with Joseph, Mary the pastors, as well as with the disciples on different occasions. From Genesis to Revelation, we find this melody with variations resounding in our ears and in our consciousness and heart.

            It’s an exhortation, a challenge to the Sons of God spanning biblical history, encompassing all the church’s history. It’s an exhortation that contains something of a promise, a reality lived by many. What is the task that is being impeded by some fear of ours? What is the fear that God wants to help us conquer?

 

Prayer: Lord, help us to reject our fear. Amen.

NO TENGAS TEMOR

Josue 10:1-14

Y Jehová dijo a Josué: No tengas temor de ellos…

Josué 10:8a

            En muchos lugares del mundo se vive con temor constante: temor al asalto por la calle, temor a perder el trabajo, temor a enfermarse. Estos son temores a algo que nos pudiera ocasionar daño o prejuicio.

            También hay temores a hacer lo que tenemos por delante: temor a alguna tarea o reto en el hogar, en el trabajo, en la escuela, en la Iglesia; temor al futuro con sus decisiones, compromisos, sacrificios, conflictos.

            ¿Cuántas veces hemos encontrado en nuestra lectura de la Biblia las palabras: No temas? Empezando con Abraham, siguiendo con Moisés, Josué, David, los profetas, luego en el Nuevo Testamento con José, María, los pastores, también con los discípulos en diferentes ocasiones. Desde Génesis hasta Apocalipsis encontramos esta melodía con variaciones resonando en nuestros oídos y en nuestra conciencia y corazón.

            Es una exhortación, un reto a los Hijos de Dios a lo largo de la historia bíblica, a todo lo largo de la historia de la Iglesia. Es una exhortación que tiene algo de promesa, una realidad vivida por muchos. ¿Cuál es la tarea que está siendo impedida por algún temor nuestro? ¿Cuál es el temor que Dios quiere ayudarnos a vencer?

 

Oración: Señor, ayúdanos a echar fuera el temor. Amén.
