DO WHAT IS CORRECT

Jonah 3: 1-10

Then the word of the Lord came to Jonah for a second time: “Go to the great city of Nineveh and proclaim to it the message I give you.” (NIV)

Jonah 3:1

            God told Jonah to go to Nineveh, a sinful city, and preach the message of repentance and salvation. Jonah refused, and fled on a boat. But the ship faced a storm and Jonah was thrown into the sea and swallowed by a great fish. After Jonah repented the fish vomited him up onto the shore. Jonah proclaimed the destruction of Nineveh and turned it over to God. The story of Jonah shows God’s grace for every person, regardless of their origin.

            The people of Nineveh, whose sins were many, were spared judgment when God sent someone to call them to repentance. This is grace. God also showed his grace to Jonah. God did not cast him aside when he disobeyed. God did not look for someone else to do the job. God patiently addressed Jonah a second time, and told him what he wanted him to do. Jonah was given a second chance to obey. This is also grace.

            Can we say we’ve been completely faithful to God? Grace allows us to get up after we fall, knowing that God will give us another chance.

 

Prayer: Oh God, we thank you that you are always there to give us another chance when we stumble. Amen.

HACER LO CORRECTO

Jonás 3: 1-10

El Señor se dirigió por segunda vez a Jonás, y le dijo: anda vete a la gran ciudad de Nínive y anuncia lo que te voy a decir.

Jonás 3:1

            Dios le dijo a Jonáás que fuera a Nínive, una ciudad pecaminosa, y predicara el mensaje de arrepentimiento y salvación. Jonás se rehusó y huyó en un barco. Pero el barco enfrentó una tempestad, y Jonás fue lanzado al mar y tragado por un gran pez. Después que Jonás se arrepintió, el pez lo vomitó en la orilla. Jonás proclamó la destrucción de Ní¡nive y esta se volvió a Dios.

            La historia de Jonás muestra la gracia de Dios para toda persona, no importa su origen. Los habitantes de Nínive, cuyos pecados eran muchos, se libraron del juicio cuando Dios envió a alguien para llamarles al arrepentimiento. Esto es gracia. A Jonás tambiéén Dios le mostró su gracia. Dios no lo echó a un lado cuando desobedeció. Dios no buscó a otra persona para hacer la labor. Dios, pacientemente, se dirigió por segunda vez a Jonás, y le dijo lo que tenía qué‚ hacer. A Jonás se le dio otra oportunidad de obedecer. Esto tambié‚n es gracia.

            ¿Podemos decir que hemos sido completamente fieles a Dios? La gracia nos permite levantarnos después que caemos, sabiendo que Dios nos dará otra oportunidad.

 

Oración: Oh Dios, te damos gracias porque siempre Tú estás para darnos otra oportunidad cuando tropezamos. Amén.
