International Children’s Day

REJOICE IN THE LORD!

Phillipians 4:4-9

Rejoice in the Lord always, again I say rejoice.

            Can you remember writing or receiving handwritten notes? Cards with words of thanks to a family member or friend used to be quite common. I still send them occasionally, but judging by the surprised reactions of recipients, it is not common to receive such notes these days. We often forget to thank the people who love us.

            The Letter to the Philippians can be described as a long and surprising letter of thanks. The Apostle Paul wanted to express his gratitude to the believers in Philippi for the gift they sent after learning of his imprisonment for preaching Christ’s message. Paul also seeks to encourage them to stand firm in persecution and rejoice, regardless of their circumstances. What a great way to say thank you!

            The unshakeable joy that Paul shares with his readers is based on a great truth: “The Lord is near”. Our loving God is never far from His children. He is close in our suffering.  Even in the most difficult situations He knows what we  are going through and is always ready to guide and comfort us. Nothing can separate us from his wonderful love!

 

Prayer: Merciful Lord, fill our hearts with joy and gratitude. Teach us to trust in you even in the most difficult situations. In the name of Jesus we pray, Amen.

¡ALEGRENSE EN EL SEÑOR!

Alégrense siempre en el Señor. Repito: ¡Alégrense!

            ¿Puedes recordar escribir o recibir notas escritas a mano? Las tarjetas con palabras de agradecimiento a unfamiliar o amigo solían ser bastantes comunes. Todavía las envío de vez en cuando. Pero a juzgar por las reacciones de sorpresa de los destinatarios, no es tan común recibir tales notas en estos días. Muchas veces en nuestras vidas nos olvidamos de agradecer a las personas que nos quieren.

            El libro de Filipenses puede describirse como una larga y sorprendente carta de agradecimiento. El Apóstol Pablo quería expresar su gratitud a los creyentes en Filipos por el regalo que habían enviado después de enterarse de su encarcelamiento por predicar el mensaje de Cristo. Pablo también trata de alentarlos a mantenerse firmes en las persecuciones y a regocijarse, independientemente de sus circunstancias. ¡Qué gran manera de decir gracias!

            El gozo inquebrantable que Pablo comparte con sus lectores se basa en una gran verdad: “El Señor está cerca”. Nuestro Dios amoroso nunca está lejos de sus hijos. Está cerca en nuestro sufrimiento. Él sabe lo que estamos pasando, y él siempre está listo para guiarnos y consolarnos, incluso en las situaciones más difíciles. ¡Nada puede separarnos de su maravilloso amor!

 

Oración: Señor misericordioso, llena nuestros corazones de gozo y gratitud. Enséñanos a confiar en ti, incluso en las situaciones más difíciles. En el nombre de Jesús oramos. Amén.
