SACRIFICE FOR YOUR FAMILY

Malachi 2:13-14

It is because the Lord is the witness between you and the wife of your youth. You have been unfaithful to her, though she is your partner, the wife of your marriage covenant. (NIV)

            Sacrifice is measured by difficulty. In Malachi’s day people not only skimped on temple sacrifices, they also could not even sacrifice their desires to care for their wives and children. It would have been acceptable in God’s eyes to skimp on what God deserved in order to be able to take care of one’s family.

            But the Israelites were also being unfaithful to their families. It is an amazing display of God’s faithfulness by telling the men of Israel that he will not accept their sacrifices if they do not take care of their families. Too many of God’s people have backed down, neglecting their marriage and family for the sake of their career and even the church.

            One of my seminary professors once told me, “God will often ask our families to make sacrifices, but God will never ask us to sacrifice our families.” When we are unfaithful to the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of our families, we are living outside of God’s will, and there is never an excuse for that.

 

Prayer: Dear Jesus, save us from our selfishness, and help us to love our families the way you love them, and to sacrifice for them, because that is doing your will. In your name we pray. Amen.

SACRIFICIO PARA TU FAMILIA

Malaquías 2:13-14

Pues porque el Señor es testigo de que tú has faltado a la promesa que le hiciste a tu mujer.

Mal. 2:14

            El sacrificio se mide por la dificultad. En los días de Malaquías la gente no solo escatimaba en los sacrificios del templo, ni siquiera podí¡an sacrificar sus deseos para cuidar de sus esposas e hijos. Hubiera sido una cosa aceptable a los ojos de Dios que escatimaran en lo que Dios merecía para cuidar de sus familias. Pero los israelitas también estaban siendo infieles a sus familias.

            Es una muestra asombrosa de la fidelidad de Dios que les dice a los hombres de Israel que no aceptaráá sus sacrificios si no cuidan de sus familias. Demasiadas personas de Dios han retrocedido, descuidando su matrimonio y su familia por el bien de su carrera e incluso de la iglesia. En cierta ocasión uno de mis profesores del Seminario me dijo: Dios con frecuencia pedirá a nuestras familias que hagan sacrificios, pero Dios nunca nos pedirá  que sacrifiquemos a nuestras familias.

            Cuando somos infieles a las necesidades físicas, emocionales y espirituales de nuestras familias, estamos viviendo fuera de la voluntad de Dios. Y nunca hay una excusa para eso.

 

Oración: Querido Jesús, sálvanos de nuestro egoísmo. Ayúdanos a amar a nuestras familias de la manera en que tú la amas y a sacrificarnos por ellas porque eso es hacer tu voluntad. En tu nombre oramos. Amén.
