FOR THE LONELY HEART

Mark 3:20-35

Whoever does God’s will is my brother, my sister, and my mother.

Mk. 3:35 (CEB)

            Often we listen to the feelings of lonely people, especially on holidays. It is common to feel alone and misunderstood.  Jesus definitely knew this feeling.  Maybe you know it too.

            Today we read that the mother and brothers of Jesus came to speak with him.  In this moment, his family was convinced that Jesus was crazy.  Clearly, Jesus was misunderstood by his family and by the teachers in Jerusalem.  That is why he names his family by pointing to his followers.  Jesus never stopped loving his immediate family. Just before his death on the cross he made arrangements for his disciple John to take care of his mother. And after the resurrection of Jesus, we find Mary and also the brothers of Jesus among the believers. 

            Jesus calls us his closest family.  In Jesus we are connected most intimately with God the Father and the Holy Spirit, and we arrive to be part of the worldwide body of believers. We have friends all over the world.  We were created to connect to one another.  A big part of dealing with loneliness is being intimately connected with God and his community.  We are a big family in God and we are called to love and to care for one another. 

 

Prayer: Father, when we are alone, console us with your Spirit and help us to connect ourselves to our family and friends in Christ.  Thank you!  In the name of Jesus we pray, Amen.

PARA EL CORAZON SOLITARIO

Marcos 3:20-35

Pues cualquiera que hace la voluntad de Dios, ese es mi hermano, mi hermana y mi madre.

            A menudo escuchamos el sentir de personas solitarias, especialmente en los días festivos. Es común sentirse solo e incomprendido. Jesúús definitivamente conocía ese sentimiento.  Quizás tú también lo sabes.

            Hoy leemos que la madre y los hermanos de Jesús vinieron a hablar con él. En ese momento su familia estaba convencida de que Jesús estaba “loco”. Claramente Jesús fue malentendido por su familia y por los maestros de Jerusalén. Es por eso que señalando a sus seguidores los llamó su familia. Jesús nunca dejó de amar a su familia inmediata. Justo antes de su muerte en la cruz hizo arreglos para que su discípulo Juan cuidara de su madre. Y después de la resurrección de Jesús encontramos a María y también a los hermanos de Jesús entre los creyentes.

 

            Jesús nos llama su familia más cercana. En Jesús nos conectamos más íntimamente con Dios, el Padre y el Espíritu Santo, y llegamos a ser parte del cuerpo mundial de creyentes. Tenemos amigos en todas partes. Fuimos creados para conectarnos. Una gran parte de lidiar con la soledad es estar íntimamente conectado con Dios y su comunidad. Somos una gran familia en Dios y estamos llamados a amarnos y cuidarnos unos a otros.

 

Oración: Padre, cuando estemos solos, consuélanos con tu Espíritu y ayúdanos a conectarnos con nuestra familia y amigos en Cristo. ¡Gracias! En el nombre de Jesús oramos. Amén.
